A few weeks ago I got some dead wood from state forest lands for my parents. It was hot...too hot.
Since the weather finally cooled off, figured I'd get it split. 98% oak with a few random pieces of maple.

There's a water bottle for size reference. Gonna call reinforcements to get it carried and stacked.

I cut wood for my parents as well. My dad helps with what he can, but I'm happy to do it. Besides it was cutting with him and my granddad that I learned how to use a saw.

We're all proud of you looking out for your folks. I'm sure they appreciate it, I know I would....

That's also a huge pile of splits you got done too!

Pretty setting your folks have, I like the manicured drive and all the trees. :) I assume they have a woodstove and your dad is a firewood hoarder?

I've got a bunch of wood and still my dad insists on buying a couple loads this year. My parents only burn a couple truck loads a year meanwhile I have dump truck loads sitting here and he won't take any. Haven't figured out why either

I guess I just going to load up some and take to them

They just got back into wood after many years without. They recently built an addition and included a fireplace. He only hoards what I get for him. They've both had back surgeries, dad's no doubt related to all those years heating our home with wood and an axe. He's gettin' too old to throw around rounds like those.
He has a big pile of apple wood that needs processed next. I'll try to get after that later in the week.

Last year was his first burning wood in the new fireplace. I kept him supplied with this:

It was also right after a surgery so I split it real small. He kept reminding me how fast those sticks burned so the oak I left a bit meatier. We live in a very rich apple producing county. We frequently find orchard owners who push old trees and offer the wood for free so they don't have to mess with it.

It's good of you to help out, I'm sure they appreciated it. Growing up my dad had a fireplace (no stove) and he could burn a ton of firewood. Almost every night he would have a fire... Not sure where I picked up the bug?

Oh my.. apple makes awesome firewood. It burns hot, but it is a pain in the azz to work. Lots of limbing. sticks are never straight so it doesn't stack well. Superb for smokin' in the BBQ. And did I mention, it's usually all free.
