    Ouch.. Lesson learned.

I bet it never cut a piece of wood after it was built. Only started to see that it ran. Then shut down till it was bought.

I'd definitely check for leaks as you stated. There is a reason why it smoked the OEM top end.

Find it. Fix it.. And run the snot out of it. Hutzl has sold a million top ends I bet. They are not great, but they work. Post in the aftermarket parts thread as time goes on.

I hate dishonest people. I saw your post on Craig'slist warning people about this guy. I bought a 026 that has a cheap top end on it. It runs surprisingly well. I have never ported a saw so I am going to port it. If I mess up I won't be out much. I'm going to run mine till it gives problems then replace it with an OEM cylinder.

His ad is gone now I guess. I hope it isn't because someone bought it. I just paid $100ish more than I would have paid for a saw with a $23 top end on it. There are like 6 ebay sellers with the same kit at almost the same price.

I see someone in Bunker Hill always selling Stihl saws. I wonder if he works at a dealer? There is an 029S on CL that may be him. Could you PM me his name or address so I will know to not deal with him. I wonder since this guy put the piston in backwards if the orginal cylinder could have been cleaned up. I agree that a Chinese cylinder devaules a saw greatly. The bigger the saw the more it devalues IMO.

Charleston where I'm from is flooded and got 2 FEET of rain.
