I had the cats in my 04 sequoia go out. I bought the o2 simulator to condition the sensor to trick the computer. Ford trucks are good too!! I have a 90 ranger with 308,000 miles and no engine or transmission work as well???
I own a ford truck a chevy truck had a gmc jimmy. Own two toyota suv's. I am not really brand loyal. But mine are all older. I would sell you all 5 of my vehicles for $45k!!!
If you get one gadget on a pickup, get the integrated trailer brake controller. Not even the best aftermarket controllers compare. Why does cylinder deactivation scare you? It's a pretty simple system, other manufacturers have been doing similar things inside engines for decades now. My truck hardly ever runs in 4 cyl mode, as soon as I think about adding throttle it pops right back into 8 cyl mode.
MM he is probably scared from those family of engines from the first gen of AFM engines. Many smoke and burn oil. I think it should be a recall but like ford they chose to ignore the common problem and just fix the ones that were under warranty. (I'm talking about ford 5.4s ejecting plugs, sticking plugs, can phases..chains) . My buddy had about an 08 silverado it has a short block put in as a warranty rebuild. Rings welded to pistons and would burn about a qt and a half of oil in about 2 hours of riding. When they turned the block over to unbolt the pistons they just fell out of the motor they said. The guy is a mechanic (kia certified at a dealer if that matters to the point) and far from abuses anything he has.
If I had $45K to spend on a truck, I'd get a F250 with a blown 6.0 and have a 5.9 swapped into it....
You have to pay insurance and reg on anything the newer the more so thats not really a good reason? We have land at our insurance and registration fees as well. But on a 30 year old truck it costs me about $30 on year and $65 the next and then back to $30. Our tag fee only occurs every two years but you pay taxes annual. You also get the sticker for the plat every year when you pay your fees.

New trucks with any kind of options are priced to the moon. My 07 civic is a daily and my hauler is a 2000 2500 silverado. Both paid off and owe me nothin. I hope to keep both for 4-5 more years. If i manage to pay off the house early then a new truck will be the first purchase. Both vehicles are over 120k now. Hopefully another 100k before anything serious. I would like a cummins and right off the lot delete the BS and tune it. Hopefully i can keep a rig like that for 20 years
My '89 GMC C3500 pickup: 2 year reg - $180 Annual safety inspection - $22 Annual Ins Premium (liability only, 3rd vehicle on policy) - $600 Not counting ins, 5 vehicles could easily cost nearly $600 a year just in fees to the great state of NY.

I actually pay $1,400 for 2 cars fully insured I don't think that's bad, they pay me back for everything. My wife had a little incident a few months ago where she got 2 blow outs and they paid for the 2 new tires...
Insurance on tires!! No wonder its high! Mine is about that much with full coverage on two suvs and then 3 other with just liability.
