Depends on how cold it is outside & the amount of insulation in your walls & roof.

Solar electric fence is on the way . If they ask nice I won't mind helping 'em out once in a while. If they don't then I doubt they will like my assortment of arrows, bolts or bullets.

How about like an average per day for an average house...give me something !!! I am fairly well insulated... walls and attic floor. Older windows but great storms. House also wrapped in exterior insulation.

7.1 Gal of heating oil is equal to approx 1 million BTU's.

    • Fuel Oil - measured in gallons. Residential customers purchase fuel oil in gallons. There are 140,000 BTUs per gallon.
It appears that each fuel type has its own unit of measurement; however, there is a common unit of measurement that applies to all of these fuel sources. It's a BTU — or British Thermal Unit. If you were to strike a single match, it would put off the same amount of heat contained in a BTU.

How much heat does my home need in the winter?
    • We use an average home when comparing fuel costs. Average homes in the Midwest use between 60 and 80 million BTUs each winter. If your home is larger or smaller, older or newer or has more or less insulation, you will require additional information before assessing your home's heating needs.
    • If you know the age of your home, its approximate square footage and how well it is insulated, you can estimate your home's heating needs. The link below can help you in determining an estimate.
    • Once you know the estimate number of BTUs your home needs, you can compare the cost to heat your home by type of heating system.
    • If you're curious about what impact you could potentially see based on various home improvements or upgrades to your heating system, see our Home Energy Analysis page.

Can't you get some information from the prior owners? Maybe if you know where they bought the oil, you could contact that company and find out how much oil was used over what period of time. Usually there is a tag on the oil pipe that gives the company's name.

It is a Moultrie M-990i Digital game camera. Meant for strapping to a tree in remote areas . It will do triggered stills , video or time-lapse and has night vision. If your not looking for something that is wireless ( have to download the pics via SD card or USB port) it seems to work pretty well. at about 170 they are not cheap but have good standing with the intended user community. It may work for home security depending on what you requirement are.

Nice. I will try the calculator and see if it goes back to 1762. But I could see burning oil for a week and see how many gallons I consume as a reference.

Good points. The people who owned the place have passed but I do recall seeing a sticker out by the fill pipe.
