A buddy of mine bought a couple of those sub-$50 top ends off eBay and that's exactly what they looked like.

I have bought a huztl off ebay and paid less than $50 for a 372 top and looked WAY better than that

Ive used hutlz amd cleaned the porting alil and had good results. Easier to justify 35$ to 40$ than 300$ to a customer

Wow... I have seen and used 2 Hutzl units. Both were not perfect, but what you have there is horrible Keith.

Glad they are making it right. :)

Ya they were very nice about it and it was sealed in packaging and I knew they hadnt opened it and looked at it. Probably just middle men trying to make a dollar but I just wanted to let them be aware of the quality

If its my saw always oem , but some customers dont want to pay too much for many reasons some of them are , i dont have money , i dont have the saw for pro work , the saw its old and many others , some others cant understand , and some others dont want to understand
its a little complex situation depend if the customer want to understand the difference oems - good aftermarket- bad aftermarket , and of course to pay for this diference

The last 44 I built I used a Hyway intake. The intake was sucking shut going to wot. I went round with that saw flipping parts to find the intake problem. The intake would open back up after letting off throttle.

Just put a 660 together with a few AM parts---
Huztl "rubber kits" came in handy as you'll almost always find torn AV mounts or other problems with the rubber stuff. That little ring that fits on the tank (1128 791 8400) has been busted on both 1122 saws I've worked on. The 660 got the huztl ring, the 064 is getting a homemade one (cut from an 034 AV mount).
Once again, I didn't like the case gasket material on the 660 AM gasket kit. That got an OEM.
The 064 got a ms640 case gasket from china--- shorter oil tank on the older 066/064s, don't forget. More info coming soon-

I can confirm that AM elastostart handles don't last.

I put a FarmerTec/Huztl Husky 55 top end on a 50. Had to drill the jug fin holes bigger to get a ground down 8mm socket down to the bolt heads. Got it together and couldn't move fuel to the carb. Tore it down and find the jug impulse hole doesn't connect with crankcase. Enlarged hole and works fine now. The hole is too far away from the cylinder skirt. IIRC, the 55 crankcase has a punch out semicircle where jug hole would have talked with crankcase chamber, so this jug may fit the 55 fine. Hard to fault them since it's a 55 top end on a 50 case. Next time, I'll be poking a phone wire in during dry assembly!

The Meteor 660 piston was one of the best I've seen in terms of machining... It came with eared clips, though. I used OEM.
I also tried a huztl clutch cover for the first time. Fit pretty good so I ordered another one just to have on hand.

Running AM bearings from weedeaterman in an 064... no issues for about 15 tanks so far. Stihl proprietary bearing is no more (I have mixed feelings on this, but my curiosity overpowered any brand loyalty). The real test will be if these bearings will last the 20+ years and 1000s of hours that OEM bearings can tolerate.

Going to try Huztl (Farmertech) bearings in my next 1122 build. I'm wondering if they're from the same factory as the 460/660 bearings I've already used.

I use a few aftermarket handlebars, clutch covers, etc. I've used a bunch of AM seals and gaskets with no issues. BUT. I have yet to find a 044 or an 046 aftermarket case gasket that was worth using. That's just weird.......the other gaskets are fine, but those are always made outta some sort of paper that is crap.

What about the aftermarket HD 2 filters? Any good? Close to OEM in terms of performance?

I am running a NWP big bore top end kit on one of 372 xp's. It contains new OEM lower parts. I have only ran about 8 tanks through it so far but, the power is outta this world. Seems like a very quality after market kit to me.

I bought an aftermarket top end kit for my 385 XP from chainsawr. It was of extreme quality as well. I just used 1.5 caber rings instead and, widened the transfer ports, plus muffler modified it. The rings which came with the kit were 1.2 mm and I installed 1.5 mm. It has had about 25 gallons through it and it has never run this strong.

So far, I don't really have enough time on the NWP to swear by it. But, the chainsawr kit has cut a lot of big wood. A lot of noodling too. It just keeps getting stronger. In the words of my dad, "That saw is a Hosscat." I'd highly recommend either kit for rebuilding purposes. God Bless

That's good to know. It's amazing to think of how many AM kits sell and yet we don't have a lot of longitudinal data out there assessing their performance. My Hyway kit comes to mind, which is 2+ years running but I just haven't gotten around to create a full thread on it, yet.
