I am building a three point hitch for a farmall M. Should I build to category 1 or category 2 specifications? I imagine cat 2 would be advantageous for my future logging winch build. However, most of the brush hogs I find for sake around here are cat 1.

Two hydraulic lift cylinders and a hydraulic top link.

Tractor only puts out 800 psi at best, looking at 4" cylinder with stroke TBD.

Also contemplating a 3 point pallet fork build for moving palletizing fiarwood.

Oliver had tractors where there was a removable ball at the end of the three point arm, you could switch between different categories.

If you have cat 2 arms, there are commonly available bushings that slip over cat 1 pins to take up the "slop".

I'd build it with cat 2s. The M may not have a lot of lift power but it'll pull.

I have a MF 165 which is cat 2 and most of my equipment is cat 1.
I just changed the lift pins to cat 2 on most of them and use bushings on the others.
My top link is cat 2 on the tractor end and cat 1 on the implement end.

cat 2 pins are $10-$15/set at farm store here. I would go Cat 2 and change pins on Cat 1 equipment if needed.
