Suggestions for an upgrade thermostat Pellet stove

Yes. A Hunter stat or Lux 500 or 1500 will have a bigger swing setting. If the Quad starts back up with just a short shut down, the thermocouple will not drop below 500° and the stove will overfeed at start up and sound like a freight train and look like a nuclear bomb!

The Lux can get as much a 4.5° swing or 2.25° on each side of the setting.

So if it's set at 70° the stove will start up at 67.75° and shut down at 72.25°. This gives the Quad ample time to drop in internal temperature (thermocouple). Also, if the stove is set to a lower setting (Low or Med) the stove runs longer and gives the house a better "soak" of the heat. I actually ran my 1200 on Low almost 24/7 in the dead of the winter. Kept my 2,100 sq ft house a nice even temp and the stove didn't start and stop 20 times a day. On start up, the stove runs on High until the thermocouple meets the 500° temp then the stove reverts to the setting you have it at. So running on low saves fuel if the stove has to start several times in one hour.

That is why a large swing helps if running a stat. Let the stove work. Then give it a good rest.

 

If it's shutting off and Turing on within 30 min? Then you need a bigger swing/better stat. IMO.

If it's less than that time? Then it's better to select a lower heat setting and adjust the feed gate to let the stove run constantly. You'll still save more fuel and have a warmer home. In my experience. And my stove is dead center in my ranch (70 ft long).

 

What's the total swing this unit has Pete? Is it still the large swing if the others in the Lux line up?

 

Each one is .25°. So 8 would be 4° total swing.

2° isn't enough for that type of stove. Having owned one for several years, a hot start is not good on the glass, thermocouple, firebox, etc.

I'd run 8-9 on the swing. A Quad can be a dangerous stove if the thermocouple doesn't cool enough and the stove restarts. The flame is HUGE and sounds like a freight train.
