Sorry, guys and gals, I haven't been posting many of my adventures this summer. I've been extremely busy, and it just hasn't let up very much!! We've all heard the saying "when it rains, it pours".....well, that proved very true this past week. I ended up with TWO 40"+ diameter red oaks. Both around 80' tall. One had been dropped on a guys property several weeks back and proved much too big for him to even begin to deal with, the other was a full removal. I ended up with ALL of the wood from both jobs!!! Some pics of my catch...

We strategically laid the tree down across the driveway after removing several pieces of the top from it and protecting the driveway by stacking a pile of rounds under the path of the trunk off of the driveways edge. Worked well......

So far, I've hauled around 30 rounds this size home between the two jobs, with at least one more load of rounds this size to go. And around three more loads of tops from the other job. All in all, I'm estimating 7 cord from the two trees.......now comes the arduous task of splitting these monsters. I did split up 6 of the big rounds last evening and they weren't the really big ones, got an average of 48 splits each from them!!

This cache, when split and stacked, will put me right around 50 cord......so I won't need it until around 2020!!

For that reason, I'm splitting it a little bigger!

Well then, I guess you're somewhere around 20 years ahead by now, eh?
    Those are big Oak.
SisIL has a few maybe not that big that are starting to die off. I need a bigger saw.

ETA: You beat me to it.......only 5 years? Dat ain't right.

Hope you got a vertical splitter as getting something that big on horizontal is a challenge! Don't ask me how I know:whistle:

Incredible that two trees will yield that much wood. And even more incredible you have 50 cords, you my man are a hard working wood warrior! As Garth and Wayne said "We're not worthy"!!!

And I was complaining about hand splitting some small elm rounds.

Way to go, very inspiring to remind us to keep at it.
