$700 sounds high for a used splitter! One can buy a new 22 ton for $1000 so for $300 you get a new one. How long will they last though? Ours is 25+ years old and has split over 300 cord. What about repairs? So far the only repair we've made is to tie a new knot in the starter rope. Only cost is for oil and gas so far. Ours is a 20 ton with a Briggs & Stratton engine, 5 hp. So much for the B&S worthless engines.

that seems high as backwoods said, for a couple hundred more you would have a new one with a warranty ,but you deserve it great job with the smoking

Oh cool, thanks for the heads up! For some reason I thought they cost more. I have not researched it much yet. Just browsed a bit. Today I picked up a new toy, a 48" Stihl Cant Hook. Now I can push the bigger trunks around. :saw:

Backwoods Savage , unfortunately used decent splitters really hold their value on the used market.

People pay the price though for decent used splitters, so the market bears the high going rate.

I agree though, just buy a new one for 900 or so.

Dusky, I wouldn't have paid anything for that. Best I would have offered was to take it for free. In Pittsburgh you should have no trouble rounding more wood than you'll ever burn for free as long as your willing to work for it.

The cant hook is a God sent tool. Today I was able to attack a pile of huge trunks. They were stacked up like a dangerous pile of heavy pick up sticks. I was able to hook onto the ends of logs, out of harms way, and roll them until they were flat and separated. Then buck from one side all the way down, and then roll over nice and easy to finish the buck cuts. I love this tool!!!
