First off.....WOW WHAT A SCORE!! Second off.....good on ya for sharing!! Just another reason I love our members here!!!
I messaged him this morning. I've got access to a small and large trailer so depending on where he lives maybe we can attack that pile and tear it up quickly. I'm off this week so would like to get some cutting in. Although it's 90 degrees and I just finished building a floating dog ramp for my pool.
I'm probably going back tomorrow for another load, so let me know what he says when you call him. There's more than enough to go around.
Welcome to the forum Babaganoosh. Quite a name there? Is there a story? Would be really nice if you two could work together on this.
I met babaganoosh over there a little while ago, nice guy, he let me try out his Makita saw, it ripped compared to my little 009l.. Lol, so that's my new goal, is to get a decent saw that makes my life easier. He also brought along a o36 Stihl that looked like a beast..With the pile of wood being pretty close to both of us, we should be Able to make several runs at it.. There's a couple MONSTER locust logs buried that we need to get to. If only it was 55 degrees..
That's awesome! You share your wood stash...he shares his saws...what's going on??? Stuff like that just doesn't happen anymore. Kudos to both of you.
Ok. Finally made it back. Busy day cutting and now I'm dog sitting apparently. There is an insane amount of wood there. Just trailer upon trailer loads. My trailer is only 5 by 8 and I filled it twice. Brought one load to my buddies house who helped me get started last year and then another load for my house. Figure it's good wood karma. Pictures don't even do that pile justice. Talking to the homeowners dad who was out there cutting and trying to develop a plan. We are gonna pull a bunch of the pile down and cut cut cut until we have a bunch of rounds. It's a lot easier then a trailer load at a time. Once it's all cut we can just stop in to get the rounds. I'm beat. I gotta eat something and I'll be back.
I've managed to pull 4 loads outta there, and I've been busy splitting and stacking it. The way I'm figuring it, this will be next years wood , it's a nice mix of locust, cherry, maple, and some white oak. There's gonna be 2 rows and filled with uglies in the middle.. 12' long 6' high on the long side, 10'x6' on the short side..
That's awesome you guys are able to work together and share in the good fortune. Great score those don't come along that often
I've got a few of my small trailer loads out and one with my dad's big trailer. I've probably bucked 25 logs so far trying to cut the pile for the guy. Lemme tell you that a peavey is a great tool for bucking logs. I can't believe how much it helps. There's still so much wood there to cut. Few pics. Big trailer load Small trailer load Few of the small loads stacked. Three rows and an 036 for size reference Took a pic of buddy doing the finishing cuts on a log that we flipped with the peavey. I'm not a good picture taker but for some reason it looks awesome. I've yet to split anything. Since this will be for next year I'm waiting another month for the temps to drop. In the meantime I'm gonna keep getting a load here or there and start other projects like closing the pool, rewiring and adding new exterior lights to my house, brew some beer. Possibly relax....hopefully relax anyway.
Nice!! im glad someone on here was able to put a dent in that pile, I'll probably hit it tomorrow again just to finish off the stacks..
Buy that man a case of his favorite refreshment...sounds like there is maybe more where that came from, do a good job of cleaning up, etc, you may have yourself a real honey hole in the future
That's some really nice honey brown ale I made up in July. Was perfect for when I got home and started stacking the logs.
Got a load of mostly cherry today. Up to 4 rows at my house. Hope it cools down a little soon so I can start splitting.
