4:20 this morning I was awakened by the sound of a tree coming down in the woods. Got up to see if any of it landed in the yard. Didn't see anything so went back to bed. Ten minutes later another tree comes down. We had a bit of rain overnight and foggy conditions with no wind. When it got light enough to see I went out to see what had come down. It looks like a couple of oaks on my neighbors land came down with tops crosing the line fence. Not much wood for me there. Neighbor is rather protective of his land so won't get much of the wood.
I'd at least have a talk with him, maybe offer to help him clean it up if he splits the wood with you? Worth an ask. Heck it may even form a new bond between the both of you. Could lead to bigger and better things!
The wood is in a bad place for him to get to it (down a steep hill in the woods) and he does not burn wood. Hard to get permission to go after a wounded deer on his land. At least I have enough wood on my own land.
I'd at least give it a try Erik. Not sure until you ask and because he doesn't burn wood, you may do him a favor and get on his good side.
Will C You got that right. He has around 100 acres of an old farm. He got everything but the buildings and land around them. If we stay out of each others hair, we are good.
I have quite a few of them like that. Shot a deer one year and it went over on the neighbors place went to ask if I could retrieve it since I could still see it from my property and was told NO and if you ever cross that fence line I will put a gun to your head until the cops show up. He then proceeded to collect the deer himself. The other neighbor to this guy let his nephew hunt on his farm and told the two boys don't cross the fence line at the back of the hollow. Well it turns out the grouchy guy had ripped the fence down that summer and the boys went about 100 yards to far at which point they were held at gunpoint until the sheriff arrived and sorted the situation out and the only thing they got was a warning.
