Howdy all! I love seeing everyone's posts about scoring free BTUs out in the world. I have a nice honey hole about 5 miles from my house that I scrounge from. Today, I was getting my old Jeep Grand Cherokee cleaned out to grab a load and I heard saws running in my neighborhood. I drove around to find the source and found tree service men up in buckets felling a huge ash. I got permission to come back later and cut what I wanted before they came back to clean up the next day. After I heard the bucket truck and the chipper drive up the rode, I loaded up my saw and headed out the whole block and a half to the logs. When I got there I was pleasantly surprised they also took down a huge cherry! The only bad thing is the tree company chipped eveything that was under about 12" so all that was left was big trunks and limbs. I cut as many rounds as my 18" bar could handle. I loaded down the Jeep twice with mostly cherry and called it a day. Man, I need a bigger saw and a peavey or something to turn big logs in the future. I WISHED I could have brought home more since it was so close, but I am very happy with my huge pile of cherry. Mmmmmmm... good wood.
So far I haven't figured out how to upload pics. I am using a cell phone, but maybe later I can fire up the computer and try again.

I wanted to grab more ash but it is bigger than my abilities. I have access to oodles of more manageable ash at my honey hole. Thanks for all the welcomes and I will figure out the pic thing. Yeah, the wood hoarding bug has bit me, hard!
Welcome to the FHC, dusky. It's a letdown when you gotta leave behind good firewood, eh? Most have been there, but it sounds like you have an alternate source - redundancy is a good thing! And yeah, cherry is good stuff.....

Holy smokes! I just went outside to my driveway and the moment I sat down on one of the big cherry rounds I looked to the South and witnessed a blue green fireball streaking down from the Heavens. Not so bright as to light up the whole sky, but bigger than any meteor I have ever seen. What a cool moment!
Like the cherry score, would've been great to see a PIC of the fireball Little ribbing right there for ya dusky....
If they were letting you take what you want, they must not have a market for the wood. That may mean they are paying for disposal. Perhaps you'd be doing them a favor by giving them somewhere to dump it....
I wish I had a pic of the fireball! I reported to a meteor site so maybe I will hear back that others saw it too.
