Bore holes in it, put road flares in the holes light the flares. Have some diesl or kerosene or other fuel to dump on it. No its not safe during dry time of the year, but will provide hours of redneck entertainment on a cold winter day. I suppose someone will suggest dynamyte or exploding targets, those will work also lol,

Tordon applied to a fresh cut stump around the cambium area seems to do a decent job. Read the label instructions before you start. I bought a quart in a plastic bottle that came with a dispenser top like a dishwashing liquid bottle for under $10 at the local Rural King. I have used it on at least a dozen stumps and still have a half a bottle.
When I say fresh cut, I re-cut some that I had cut the day before just to expose a fresh surface. It is not pet friendly so keep the pets away for a day or so.

I think the best way to get rid of a stump is to dig it out.

I use glyphosate (roundup), smear it on fresh cut stump with paintbrush

I have drilled a couple holes in the stump and added some glyphosate (roundup). It will kill the stump, but you still have a dead stump

This is what I have done as well. Gives you time to either rent a grinder, have it ground, or dig it out.

I've tried the stump out crap and fire and it takes forever and a day.

I dug mine out. It sucked, and it took 3 days, and I had to cut it in half with a cheap sawsall because otherwise it was WAY too heavy for me to lift into the truck to haul it off.....

Sorry the pic is rotated. The original isn't like that

Put a mineral block on top of the stump. Deer will eat the dirt around the stump. You will be able to pull it right out in a year or 2 max. This obviously implies you have deer visiting this location.

Yes, but when your done, your done.
No waiting for years for the stump to rot.
No never ending hole to fill in your yard.
    No bees nests.

Local equipment rental, $ 75 per 4 hours- rent a stump grinder. Then do all the stumps you want gone.

Or you can get it in liquid too and that may work even better.

I have a few in the middle of a new trail so I'll dig around the stump and then take the chainsaw to it, I usually get them close to ground level.

A lot of good answers here.
In my case 98% of what I have to deal with is 6 to about 10 in, trees in the edge of the woods and by the fence line, so, it's just simply not necessary to dig the stumps out, rent a stump grinder or anything like that. I just need them to die and not sprout out new ones.
No deer around here, I saw one about 10 years ago.

Put an ad in Craigslist titled "Free Stump". Make sure they know that it is an awesome stump, and they should be grateful that you are letting them have it for free. You could charge for it, but you are a very nice person and just want to help someone out. Make sure they dig it out by hand. Don't want any noisy tools disturbing the neighbors. They also must clean up the mess and bring in clean, filtered topsoil with 15% organic matter to fill the hole (Ask for a soil sample receipt to verify). Then they can seed the area with 80%Kentucky Bluegrass and 20% Perennial Rye. Water daily for 28 days......

Just jokin around HD. As you could probably tell, I'm a little frustrated with Craigslist lately. If all else fails, I can help you dig it out the old fashioned way. Never been to Grand Blanc, but I'm sure it's not too far away from my neck of the woods.
