been trying to gather as many pics of some by-gone places that just have a certain appeal, some are around or in business still, but most are just memories now, here's a few in my area, and a couple from a ways away, share your thoughts and pics if you have any............
here's a pic of a postcard of the starlite motel that was in downtown streetsboro ohio about fifteen minutes west of where i live, i never new it even existed, the pic looks to be from the early 60's, this area along state route 14 is completely changed now, though there is a building still at this address, and the landscape where the sign is shown on the postcard looks like it's still the same today, would have loved to have seen it when it was still standing..........
Man what a coincidence, I went to Canfield fair yesterday and was saddened to see Eastpark gone. I used to eat there once in a while when I drove a dumptruck.
yep, i ate a few "Paul Bunyan" burgers in my day!!...........actually, the restaurant was moved to Brimfield in a small plaza, i think the owners are going to be taking the sign in the future, but it's still standing in it's original location as of now.........
here's some pics of the steel trolley diner in Lisbon Ohio, i've been by it several times, but never ate there, one of these days, and yep, it's still in business..............
here's another classic motel sign, this one is about an hour south of me, these pics were from the early 90's, the sign has been repainted and the motel converted to apartments.........
this place is about 40 minutes northeast of me, been by it several times, as far as i know it's still there, but the building has been vacant for years, the building can hardly be seen now due to overgrown trees and shrubs, a more currant pic, and one from when it was open.......
nice!!..........here's a few classics i've picked up over the years, the schlitz sign depicting an early beer can and beach scene i found just two days ago, it dates from 1958, the schlitz light i found several years ago, it dates from 1952, the iron city light is from 1962, the tin over cardboard koehler sign is from the fifty's also, i really like stuff from the late 50's and early 60's
found this classic sign sign today, almost fell over when i came across it, seller gave me a price i couldn't refuse, it's the same sign shown on the "of the time period" american motel guides that would have been used at the time (i have one of those as well), sign is in super shape, and is two sided, now to make a nice hanger for it that resembles the one shown on the guide...........
Anyone up in my area probably knows this one. They are still in business and cover the sign in the fall.
Went around town today and snapped some pics. Even got to see a sign collection that has outgrown a garage so it is going up outside now.
