Never heard of oak being used in a smoker, but from now on I'm saving the shavings of my hand splits for some meat smoking. What species of oak did you use?
White oak. I've used cherry but it was overpowering so I substitute oak. Just grab from my stacks and take em to the miter saw and let the smoking begin. .
I liked the cherry but the wife thought it was too strong. Might grab some maple next time but for ribs always hickory/Apple.
