I am getting ready to host youth from my church this evening. They have been coming out for about 7 years at this time of the summer. Kids from 6th grade thru highschool are invited to come. These are a few shots of my firepit area in the woods where we will be meeting later today. No fire yet, but soon.
Weiners and marshmellows roasted on cooking utinsles that I will be providing, AKA sharpened stickes I cut for them to use. Gotta keep it rustic. There will be pop, chips and whatever else they bring along. I don't furnish the food, only the location and fire.
Are you going to tell them the story of Elijah vs the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel? This is the perfect lesson to drive home the importance of dry firewood ... um, well, unless of course one has a really good relationship with the Almighty as did Elijah!
The kids had a great time with the fire. In addition to the hotdogs and marshmellows, they were even trying to roast pieces of fruit like watermellon, grapes, and strawberries. Teenagers--got to love them.
Certified106 Our son gave that to us maybe 10 years ago. He bought it at Target. It is all metal and 3 main pieces, leg unit, main body and screen cover.
Anytime kids/adults come together for fellowship its all good. Food/fire is a great common denominator.
Thats good of you to provide a spot -there'll be a lot of great memories for those kids. Beatiful spot you've got there, too!
ailanthus Thanks. the kids do like coming out. they have to walk about 300 yards thru the woods to get to the camp fire. They have to navigate a lot of protruding roots along the way.
Great memories will be made here. Those kids will remember the event and want to pass it along to the next generation too!
