Just came from Walmart, and I was going to buy a ton of pellets. On Sunday, pellets listed at 219/ton. Best price I had seen. Today, 241!. Same exact pellets that had been there(even spray painted over the pricing on the pallets). What changed, the pellets were already in lot! Just called SIB warehouse and they have MWP for 236/ton with flat $15 delivery. So 1 ton of MWP, and 1.2 tons of La Crete are on order.
Boxes going crazy with prices this year. I need(really its a "want" not need) another ton. But not gonna pay $269 for GS's when the local house has Easy Blaze and Vanderhoof Platinums for $280.
For what in effect will be $3 more a ton delivered without having to hand stack, its a no brainer(would be even less if I was buying a full seasons worth)
I call that GREED. When you have product on the floor, and magically you raise all prices, it pises me off.
Add that to the story I heard today about Walmart ceasing sales of semi-auto firearms, and that's strike two and three in my book! I really can't stand Walmart....
Thank you for posting this. Love stories like these and it makes me very happy to hear you gave your business to the small guy. Best thing that could have happened for both of you!!!
That puts a crimp in my plans to buy 5 bags of the MWP every other week That's where I got my ton of LaCrete and 2 tons of MWP. Good guy although he never seems to show up on time.
It's early in the season but I have observed that Walmart is pricing their pellets differently at seemingly every store you go to, and adjusting their prices more frequently than normal. This is old school Walmart tactics, but they are clearly trying to undercut the next closest store that sells pellets in their area, be it HD, TSC, or mom and pop shop. What is surprising to me is how on top of they game they appear to be this year. Guessing they must have invested in some serious technology that takes this price game to a whole new level? Scary.
Wal-Mart didn't get where they are today by being stupid. There must be some method to the madness. If they are watching, how about getting some Nature's Heat Oaks or any pellet for that matter to the Oxford store.
Sub, you are near the Augusta store, correct? Have you noticed a fluctuation on price? In terms of SIB, we used him LY and he was great. Although, he did need to make 2 trips BC they didn't have the amount we needed of Crabbe for both myself and father in law.
I live 10 miles from and work in Augusta. I've been quite busy so I haven't been by there in a couple of weeks. I was planning on buying 5 more bags next Wednesday so I'll check the prices then. How did you like the Crabbe? My stove dealer (Rocky's in Augusta) sells them and even he says they don't come close to LaCrete's. I can't see paying the extra money for them. MWP or FSU can handle 75-80% of my heating needs. I only burn the good stuff when it get's below 15F.
The Crabbe were OK. I think they put out decent heat, but very ashy. For the cost of them, I wouldn't pick up a full season again. My brother had La Crete last year and was very happy with them. He actually liked them better than the okanagan(sp?) That SIB stock. So, I am buying one pallet for the coldest days. I think MWP are a great pellet for the price.
Walmart here... Pennington ... $282/Ton Lowes has spray painted on their pellets $279.. Whether or not they give the 7%, like it says online orders, (?) it doesn't look like it, or they would paint that number on the pallet, I would think? Still think $279/285 for LG Granules, or La Crete, or Platinums, a mile down the road is a better deal!! YMMV Dan
Rocky should have his first load of Lacrete arriving just after labor day. He says he's almost ready.
