Thanks man.. It is really nice knowing what the trailer will hold. The pictures don't show it well, but there was a bunch of 6"ish stuff filling the gaps on the floor between the bigger rounds. I was surprised at the price since he was charging 125 per split cord which is still cheap for here. I actually asked him about that and he said since he gets the wood for free, he would prefer to sell rounds to get it moved. The guy had a wall of rounds like I've never seen..lol.. His prices are going up in September so I may snag one more load..

Good for you! Nice price and good looking rounds. If I could get a good price on ash rounds here, I'd pull the trigger.

Stuff splits like a dream doesn't it. I looked at the btu chart and white ash is showing just a hair lower than red oak.. I'm happy with it..

Smart move buying some dryer wood (ash) to give you a little more time to get your wood seasoned.

You got a lot cut and put up this year and last fall, but it would benefit from a little more seasoning. :)

Hard to start from scratch, burn 4 or 5 cords/year and do the 3 year plan all at once.... Maybe you can get a few good scrounges this fall and get a little further ahead, then it's just maintenance from that point.

Good call on buying to build up. I've got my name on the list here- $450 for "seasoned" mix of the higher btu hardwoods, should top 4 cords, already split- old man will dump it in the backyard, now I've got to figure out were to stack it before he brings it in the next 3-4 weeks! And oh, there will be pics; first time I've bought wood, should put me over the top for next year and into '17....

My best guess is I'll burn about 3 to 4 cords this year. I have that wood ready since it's a lot of silver maple and tulip that was split last year. All the mm readings have been sub 20 on that stuff so although it isn't the best, it's definitely dry.

What you said was exactly why I jumped on the ash - I would have even paid a little more than I did if I had to. For 16/17 I have almost all hard maple and red oak cut from live trees that was split last summer but still reads high 20's on the maple and even into the 30's on the oak. Worst case I'd let that sit for 17/18 and burn the ash plus some hackberry and locust for 16/17.

Just talked to the guy and I'm heading back next Saturday for another load.

Just kicked off load number 2. Heading back Saturday so I wanted the trailer empty and ready. This is definitely the most wood I've had here by far. Pretty sure this will be at least 1.75 stacked nice and tight.. I tend to think a little over 2.. 1440361834977.jpg 1440361875635.jpg

    Great price.

It's $125 a cord for log length here, and you have to buy the whole truck full.

Ouch. It's 750-900 here right now for a mixed load where you have to buy the entire triaxle as well if you can get on the list. From people I've talked to here you end up with a lot of poplar on those mixed loads.

This worked out really well so next Saturday I'm gonna see how much he wants to really load the trailer. In hindsight, I should have done that today, especially with the second load but I needed to see what he was considering a cord of rounds and in general how he was..

Hell up here I would grab as many as he sell me! once split unseasoned I could get 300 a cord for it and it wouldn't last a week! You are doing great Drvn4wood!

He wanted 2000$ for the entire pile.. By cubic feet he said it was 38 cords right now and I'd believe it having seen it. From what he told me, he has access to all the tops and timber that doesn't make the grade from a massive amount of property being logged. Said the property has been in the family for generations.

Well, what number now? :drunk:My wife and I did yard work and such all day. I've been sneaking back to the shed every now and again for a bit of "refreshment!" She has also! I thik I'm on number...? Who's countin?

Well atleast the chicken wings on the smoker have a remote alarm. A good days work deserves a touch of libation! IMHO anyway. I wish we all lived a stones throw away from each other so we could enjoy a cold one together, but perhaps it's best to just say CHEERS  one last time today. You gotta have fun sometimes!!
