If it is, it's the only one I'm aware of on the whole property. It's on sort of an island in the middle of a large low spot, mixed in with some very mature red maple. I'd like to plant some more, and maybe this is the place to do it. A lot of the maple are getting too big to survive in the soft swampy soil and falling over or dying, so there's a good size opening in the canopy nearby. If I could push some dirt around an build it up a couple feet, it could make a real nice spot. In other news, I've got my tree climbing buddy coming over in a week or 2 to help me take down the maple that's leaning over the NW corner of the house. I kinda wanted to wait until a little later in the fall, because that's where my hummingbird feeder has been for many years. But, for as cheap as he's doing it, I kind of have to let him have at it when it's convenient for him. Lately I've been finding carpenter ants in the feeder, so it needs to be gone pretty soon.
Leaves looks like hickory . Yea, that yard tree need to go, be careful , yard trees tend to hide nails
Foragefarmer hit it. Hickory has compound leaves - like ash, but alternate not opposite. Black gum is a nice tree. Cheers!
