After twenty-some odd years it's time to refresh the old tractor

Chipped away at the old paint with a scraper and then sanded it. picture 038.jpg

Brush-painted with Tremclad both sides of the wheels, the loader and mount, front brush guard and the fenders. The hood is a pain to get off and on without scraping anything but I'll get someone to help me this summer and get that done too. I was on holidays this week and this was a project I wanted to get done this year. I changed the clutch in it in the driveway about ten years ago so there's lots of life left in it yet.

Thanks Eric. It's been pretty good to me over the years. I plowed about ten acres here with a three furrow plow about ten yearts ago and it took me twenty four hours in bull low. The loader can lift big round bales with no problem or my snow bucket full of green oak piled tightly. I've drilled post holes, pulled fence posts, you name it.
Most English stuff is pretty fussy to keep running but not this thing. One of the best investments I've made and it was time to show her my appreciation.

I Tremcladded a Studebaker fire truck, but used a foam roller rather than a brush. Turned out pretty good for a backyard job.

I don't know what they would weigh, but when I unloaded my steel building sections off the truck I think one bundle of them weighed 1500 to 2000 lbs.
Flattened the front tires pretty good. Even the truck driver was impressed.

Yeah usually the front tires, or axle will give way before the loader will fail. Keep and eye on the axle for stress cracks. High school buddy lost his life cause the axle on a John Deere 4020 broke while moving round bales... be careful!

Something similar up here, but it was a ranchers young son under round bales. Tragic.

One word of caution, Tremclad does not have any UV protection so it fades pretty quickly. May not be as much of an issue with white, but very noticeable with red.

Got the hood done this week. That's it for the cosmetic, now I'll just keep her running good for the rest of my life.

This is always indoors when I'm not in the seat so the UV rays aren't a factor.

If you wax it with a quality wax it may help the UV issue as well. If its always indoors a wax job may last years!!

My mind read, "David Bradley," on that thing 'til I saw closer in post#15. It reminds me of a Ford from that era. Chris F you said it was English and it made me curious, as Ford had his hands in about everything back in the day. I think he sold the first 3000 Ford or Fordson tractors to England in WW1 because of the food and manpower shortages; women were farming everything even golf courses. Wikipedia David Brown for an interesting read. Ford wasn't tied up with them, but Ferguson was and that's where Ford and the world got the 3 point hitch. Thanks for the interesting post and good job restoring it!

WOW. I can only like it once Chris F! Awesome. Looks great! What year is the tractor? When you bought it do you remember how many hours were on the meter? And if the meter worked? And how many hour now? If it works? Just curious. I love tractors and equipment. Great job man!!!!!
