DexterDay built me a great saw a while back. He bought an 034 and put an 036 cylinder in it. Great saw and I loved running it, that thing runs a 25" bar like a boss. Unfortunately I had it out on a job an had some carb issues, changed it a little and kept going to get the job done but ended up scratching the piston and it needs replaced.

So curious if anyone has one they would sell.

I would see if that cylinder will clean up. That jug ran super strong. Then you're only out the cost of a piston and gaskets.

Yep. I'm in the habit of buying Meteor pistons, but word on the street is that Stihl OEM slugs have gotten pretty competitive.

I seen a pic and think it is beyond clean up.

As you and Swags said, it was prob the strongest stock 036 out there.

I hope someone has a cheap alternative.

I gave away the 034 jug that came off this saw in a Christmas giveaway thread. Otherwise it would be a cheap fix.

Mr Swags and Mr DexterDay, There is a Stihl 036 that a tree dropped on it. The bar is bent and clutch cover is cracked. The powerhead looks like it is all intact. The saw is 1 1/2 hours away from my house. If you want this powerhead, I could call this gentlman and go down there and inspect the cylinder and piston by taking the muffler and spark plug off and take a look with my flash light. Please let me know. Maybe we can salvage this Stihl 036 and send it to Mr Swags.

I was wondering the same thing.

I haven't been around much Jack, but it's nice to hear from you. :)

That is a very generous offer and very nice of you, seeing how far away it is from you.

Hi Mr DexterDay, its also good to hear from you. I got back from my trip to see the Stihl 036. The gentleman show me what happen to it when the tree fell on it. First I did was to take out the spark plug and took a peek inside the exhaust side cylinder while turning the flywheel. Exhaust side of cylinder looks good. I then proceed to the muffler cover. By the way, the muffler was in good shape ( looked like a small 044, 0460 cover ) but I had to use small set of pliers to straight it out so the front cover can come out. I look thur the exhaust port and saw the piston is in great shape, no scoring, machine marks looks nice in front of piston. The rear cylinder (intake side) also looks good. No scoring. I will send the 036 powerhead to Mr Swags.
I think the cylinder and piston will work nicely for him when he installs a new set of rings and Stihl oem cirlips. Cleanup the cylinder with scotchbrite using Mastermind technique. Good to go.
Bad parts the 036 that I saw was: crack case both flywheel and clutch side, but I can still turn the rotating assembly by turning on the flywheel by hand. Missing carb, coil, plastic cylinder cover and air filter cover.
Good points: flywheel still intact, clutch drum assembly, oil pump are all intact. The gas tank looks like its all together with no cracks that I can see. The trigger assembly is all together. This gas tank hand assembly I would have thought it would be destroyed, but no, it survived......
Mr Swags, I would like to send this Stihl 036 to you. I know you can use to Mahle cylinder and piston. Whatever spare parts that you can use from this powerhead is all extra. I am offering to you for free. No Charge........
I enjoy being a member here on FHC. Its a good group of guys with similar interest, Chainsaws......... I like to give back whenever I can. I know Mr DexterDay has helped me before. Thanks Mr DexterDay, you know......
Mr Swags, Please PM me with your address so I can send the Stihl 036 to you and get you back and running again.

    Jack

Wow Jack, that's a great offer. I will send you a pm.

That was a very thorough checkup on the saw. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I really appreciate it. The generosity of the people on here always amazes me and I am proud to be a part of this place.

Sorry guys for not posting lasting night. I fell asleep on the watching Red Sox baseball on tv. It was too late to post when I woke up. This is an update: this morning I boxed up the Stihl 036 and it is heading towards Ohio.
Mr Swags, I will PM you later with the tracking number and expected delivery date. I have to go out now and cut the grass before it gets too hot in the afternoon. Good luck with the 036 Mr Swags!

Hi Kevin, good to hear from you. I like it here on FHC, good place to hang around and see what other members are doing with their chainsaws. My 372 is doing well, but mostly a prom queen sitting on on the shelf and looking pretty. I have other saws that I use to do the firewood with. I see you have a nice lineup of Stihls, like Mr DexterDay.

Update, the saw came today. It was very well boxed and I took a peek at the piston. It's in perfect condition and I'm excited to make the swap with my saw.
