LED lighting

I was at HD this morning for some screws and lightbulbs. I went for the new LED bright stik. 3 for $10
really nice size bulbs that can go where the larger round ones cannot. The clerk in the light area asked if I needed any other bulbs. Then went on to show be a 4 pack Ecosmart for $4. That is a heck of a deal. These new bulbs are fantastic. Dimmable and cost a small fraction to run as compared to the incandescent bulbs. I most always go for the soft white as compared to bright light or daylight. The last two are really white, and don't seem to give the light I am accustomed to viewing. I still have several CFL bulbs that I only use in areas where I don't care about dimming.

 

How many lumens, or what is the watt equivalent?

With respect to bulbs I mostly use LED on those places where the light is turned on for only short times, like the toilet or storage spaces. Ecosmart bulbs are much cheaper to buy so this outweights the energy savings of the LED bulbs. Only thing is that these TL based Ecosmart bulbs have a very low lifetime if they are switched on for short times only.

These stips with leds that you can buy nowadays are quite cool, but I have not found a use for them in my own household yet, appart from x-mas tree lighting maybe

 

At HD a few days ago, and they had some Cree LED bulbs for under $4 apiece. 60 watts, but I don't remember the lumens.
Prices are coming down. I have almost all LED in the house now.
I've seen 60 watt equivalent bulbs rated at 9 watt up to 11 watt.

 

The bright stik is 760 lumens. replacing a 60 watt bulb and using 10 watts. This one looks like a very short tube. rated to last 13.7 years on 3 hrs a day use

I use the LEDs in all areas where to bulbs are on for any longer length of time, or hard to reach places. I even buy the little 4 watt bulbs in LED.

 

They are rated at 22.8 years with three hrs. use. I have been using LEDs for the past couple years. They have exceeded my expectations. I now have four on outside dusk to dawn and use less electricity as compared to just one traditional incandescent bulb. One thing I have noticed, All outside bulbs will last much longer is they are upside down. Right side up and they burn out in year or so. Even those in glass protected lanterns. The nice thing about LEDs is they seem to tolerate the older switches and dimmers, light sensors. Not so with CFLs. I have them in all my overhead lighting and in all the flood lights. Buying them at @ $2 or less each.

 

I walked in one day and bought Cree bulbs for $2 each. Now they are $4 each. Maine has some energy program that supplements buying energy saving devices.

 

Ok, we are replacing 100w bulbs in rooms with only a single socket, that would be 1600 lumens.

I'd say so Dennis, but I swapped the LEDs in over the course of a few years. First thing I did after we got here was put in a bunch of CFL, then started doing the LED.
PIEG had a thing where they gave out a box of CFL....12 of 'em, I think.....a few years ago. Wish they'd do that with LEDs.
Never had an issue with random dimming...that's a little strange.

 

I found the warm light the best, the white light is too glaring and has a blue hint to it.
