I'm in the "about the same" group. My wood burning has become a steady state operation. I burn 3.5-4 cords each year. I have about 12 stacked in the yard at the beginning of the season. Then, in the spring, split enough to replace what I burned. 12 cords is what my wife is happy with in the yard. If an oak falls in my lap I will grab it and make room but then the comments begin...

Have more than enough for this winter and waiting for the weather to break to start cutting for next winter.

I finished last year with about half a seasons worth of wood. I kept close tabs on how much I used so I'd know what to put up.

Now I've got about two years or so put up and I'm working on more. If all goes according to plan I'll finish the upcoming season with 3 years worth.

Sittin' pretty good here, but still plan to add a bunch to the stacks.
We have been blessed with huge supply of Red and White Oak tops from a timber operation.

Thanks Dave but I now bow to Scotty. When he first got in the forums I was way ahead of him and I think about everybody else. However, due to some unfortunate happenings, my piles have dwindled drastically but I still have probably 4 year's worth on hand. However, Scotty got into the tree trimming business and has went wild. More power to him. He is a great fella and I don't mind at all with him being way ahead of me.

I'm glad to see still over 90% of everyone who voted is as good as or better than last year. Burning wood especially over a couple cord a year gets to be quite a time consumer!

Best response is the silent one; when the oak falls while it is still cold and she is sitting in front of the hot stove. She watches me unload the truck SILENTLY.

It's still damm hot here but I couldn't resist splitting and stacking. The sooner it gets off the ground the sooner it starts drying.

Just moved here last sept. I installed the insert mid sept. Started cutting dead standing ash about mid sept. I cut four cords. Had just enough for the winter. I've got 3.5 cords css and another 5 ready to split. I've got to drop a large ash in the yard next to mine this weekend. Figure about a cord or more there to. I will start the locust next year. I have about three acres of woods covered with downed dead locust.

Thanks! After adding a log lift and big work table I would never split any other way again.

I voted "about the same". I'm probably a little bit gooder off, but it doesn't feel that way. I replenished the 5 cord I burned last year with more quick dry stuff. But last year I didn't have any wood at all that was 1 year seasoned, now more than 1/2 of it is. I was hoping to add an extra year, but I guess I basically gave that that one to my sister - I probably cut 5-6 cords for thier family this year so far too. Still got a couple months to go I suppose...

Was your lift able to handle that monster in the picture? That thing must weigh a ton. I would need to noodle that one into quarters for sure.

It will lift it no problem but I have to stand on the opposite wheel when it first starts lifting or the splitter tips. I noodled it in half to be a bit easier on the splitter and so it doesn't tip but even at that it must be a few hundred pounds.

Last year: 21 cords on hand, 3-4 had been seasoned properly (c/s/s 3 years for oak)
This year: 25 cords on hand, 8 seasoned properly, including 6 cords of oak and 2 cords of pine that I cut last spring for shoulder season.

I try to get a little bit more each year, maybe add a cord or two to my total.

Good to see that many here on FHC are coming along to get to a two or three year plan.

I don't burn as much as most here, so that helps me a lot to get ahead.

Last year I really made an effort to get ahead and get to a 3 or even 4 year plan and cut about twice my yearly usage, mainly oak. Thought if I concentrated on oak and cut double what I needed, it would get me a little ahead and give the oak more time to season.

This year has been kinda OK, with about 2.5 cord, cut split and stacked so far. I have more to do this fall, with three smaller white oaks one red, one red elm and a maple that are all dead standing in the woods. Plus a few dozen sycamore and tulip saplings along the driveway that have to go. All adds up. :)
