Do these two saws use the same "size" chain? I know the lengths will be different: 20" to 25" vs 12" to 16", but what about the cutter size? Would I be able to use the same size filing bit (dremel), file (hand file) or wheel (on grinder)?

I own neither saw, but suspect the 241 is .325" and the 362 is 3/8".

This, unless the 241 is running Picco. Either way, they will not take the same file.

The 241 runs 3/8" Picco from the factory. 5/32" file. The 362 runs standard 3/8" chain which is either a 13/64 file (for Stihl chain) or a 7/32" (for all other brands and it's close enough for Stihl too. ;))

Thanks again. The chain sizes VS file sizes sure is confusing! ;) They really should incorporate the FILE SIZE into the Chain size specs...

So what would be the smallest (aka LIGHTEST) Stihl saw I can get that will use the same chain as my 362?

The smallest one you can find a 3/8" sprocket and same gauge bar for.

The smallest and lightest saw that you could run 3/8 on would be a MS170 but you would have to change the clutch drum:rofl:  You could run 3/8 on a 241 but I don't think it would handle it well. I would not worry about having the same chains on multiple saws because of file size.

The 261 is the absolute minimum for a saw with enough azz to run standard 3/8" chain.

Oh, I'm not "worried" about it! ;) It just would be nice to not have to change bits all the time when sharpening... I was thinking about getting another saw, a small one for small stuff, but wanted to get one with same chain so I don't have to swap bits so often. Was just a thought, I like things easy! ;)

Do you have a source to purchase this "NEW" model saw, circa 1986 ? :D

You could get a second dremel and use it for the new saw;)

Hmmmmm! I like your thinking!!!! And THEN, I could get yet even ANOTHER chainsaw saw, "so I can utilize the new dremel!"

"Oh Honey, I think I need another......"
