Mohican Camping Trip

This is hands down my favorite campground in the state of Ohio! We spent 5 great days here this year enjoying the outdoors tubing, canoeing, hiking, swimming, and trying our luck on the ropes courses. It was such a blast being able to tube right down the river which runs through the middle of the campground! A great time was had by all and I can't wait to go back.

around here they call them pie irons or fire irons, you can get them square for sandwiches ,round for burgers and i think there is a sausage and dog model , fun quick way to cook over a fire , they open like a clam shell .http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Single-Camp-Fire-Iron/product/14052806512530/

We call them hobo pie irons and cook all sorts of stuff in them like desert pies, sanwhich pies, taco pies, even breakfast sandwiches. You just butter two pieces of bread and place all your ingredients in between them then open the iron, put the sanwhich in and clamp the irons around the sand which then cook it over the fire until everything is all melted and the the bread is toasted on both sides. They sell them in cast iron and aluminum but I only recccomed the cast iron ones.

For our two favorite desserts we will do cream cheese and apple pie filling out the inside and then one with peanut butter, Hershey's chocolate and marshmallow. Taco pies are fun to do also with soft shell tacos and place your beans rice and taco fillings inbetween the shells. I have also used just the half of the irons to cook an egg in the morning or chicken etc at night.

 

Almost forgot to add that if you are using bread potatoe bread works the best!

 

We loved to camp with the kids. It is those kind of memories they never forget. Now they do the same with their kids. That tubing looked like my kind of fun while the rope challenge was kind of scary.
