Thanks, Pete! I certainly have had a warm welcome here and am enjoying my time spent on FHC. I enjoy seeing all the pictures and looking at different equipment, storage ideas etc. So much to learn and many good ideas to be exposed to.

Howdy Bill. Looks like you'll fit right in. Love Marquette. My parents met there back in the '60's while attending Northern. They also lived there from about '95-'05 ish.

I'd say 3 year plan simply because oak takes so darn long to dry. If I can snag some dryer stuff in the spring, somgthing that might dry in 1 year I should be ok.

Hi Dave (assume papadave). The house is a ICF, R 50+ up top. There is an on demand propane boiler for the in floor heat. I guesstimate I used maybe 20 gallons to heat mainly the basement (also in-floor heat). Kept the main floor at 73 - 75 degrees. 1 to 2 fills a day, around 2000 Sq. ft. I feel very fortunate to have found such a well insulated home 2 years ago.

Hello Dennis. No worries. Glad to see you on here. The wood rack design came from a guy I bought oak from two years ago. He was getting out of the business so I ended up with his racks. Being the fussy sort I am, when it came time for more racks I wanted them to all have the same dimensions.

    Welcome to FHC Bill!

You should have plenty of poplar and red pine available to tide you over during the less brutal parts of the burning season.

Don't forget beverages and dogs! ;)

Yes Tim, the house is ICF from basement to roof. The guy I bought it from was an architect and did a very nice job on it. The house was new but not finished. There were no interior doors or trim and the outside wasn’t done either. No decks, no yard, etc…. I got the inside done (hired) the first year I lived there. I just started on the outside a couple of weeks ago. I am going to try and get the garage cement skirt installed, dirtwork done and maybe one or both decks on.

Horkn, I haven't taken a drink in a few years. Then a few months ago a friend suggest a shot of scotch for my cold. Ardbeg single malt. NEVER in my life have I tasted anything like that. the cold was gone the next morning and now once or twice a week I have s small sip in the evening. Sleep like a baby. It'll be fun to warm up with a glass in front of the fire after a day of snowshoeing or shoveling this winter.
