Pretty sure it's pear... see how it has that nasty twisty grain? I think Drvn4wood had some last year as well. Now.... what did I win?
I have. I got one from a neighbor this past spring. If you do any woodworking, BTW, it's lovely for turning.
It's a distinct wood, and after an arborist told me what mine was I reckon I could identify it from then on out. I also have an annoyingly odd memory that works really well... sometimes... Mine is in this years stacks, as well as in a milk crate for some smoking wood. OP - save some for cooking or smoking!
We had one in the yard that my 18" bar wouldn't totally cover at the base. A storm took it down early last summer which was no surprise..lol..
