Heidi, Thats a "SUPER" coooool Program. I've been making my grills like that for over 35 years, but never a old propane tank, they were all old oil tanks! When I retire, I'm going to build one on a trailer with a 500gal tank, it will have a Fisher wood stove incorporated into the heat source for smoking. I've drawn the plans up for it 20 years ago! Heres a pic of #5 Grill… She is almost done, on her last legs, they rust out. Grill #6 will be "VERY" special;)..

Man Dave we must kind of think alike. I tried to get a Fisher off my FIL that's just sitting on his porch to make a smoker out of. I'd like to find a compressor tank to make a grill out of and have thought of using a large propane tank as well.

    Wildwest,
Thanks for posting that. Always great to see someone do something neat. That's neat. I have a couple of old non-certified 100 lb tanks. I wonder if that could work?

If you have a Fisher stove in mind for a smoker, I'll show you something cooool here soon! ;) But check this out!!! This is "SWEET"! Hats off to this guy, he did a spectacular job! And with a Fisher insert! You can pick these up for a $100 bucks if you look hard.

Can't wait to see it. That is pretty cool what he did with the insert. I was thinking more of a trailer type setup with a round oil/propane tank.

I think it would work as a smokehouse as well if some rods are welded across the top or made so they can be taken in and out. Found a 300 gallon round oil tank on CL for $150. I'm just to much of a cheap azz to come off the money.

I took care of a man who had made a lot of things with 20 lb propane tanks. The last time didn't go so well for him. One of the tanks he attempted to cut exploded. He list most of his fingers and half his manhood.:faint:

:eek:o_O:confused::eek::doh::picard:… Oh My Lord! Even with old oil tanks, I fill them with soapy water before cutting them. When I go to do may bigger grill here later in the future, I'll fill with soapy water and I have a bottle of Argon I'm gonna purge it first just to be safe.
