I posted this over on the Proboards site, but it's not finished yet. Most know that Swags uncle was severely injured in an accident this past Spring. He can elaborate more on his condition. That's not my area (family). He got a donor 026 to fix his Uncles 026, and return it to its glory. I offered to turn what was left of both saws into a Runner. Needed a Wrap handle, kickback/brake bar, brake band, clutch cover, and piston and cyl (few other lil things like fuel filter, screws here and there, new impulse line, etc) Been doing it in my Spare, spare time. But parts have trickled in, as I won different auctions (better prices normally on auctions than BIN prices). Here are a few pics.
Now here is where everything changed. We found a nice 026 cyl on FeeBay that was new old stock. An 026 Piston, cylinder, and wrist pin. Here is what tans my hide. I received this kit today. The box and part #'s on it match a 44mm P & C of a 026. But the Numbers on the cyl are that of an 038, and later I realized the piston isn't even the right piston for it!! It drops right to the bottom of the cyl, with ring installed (single ring and almost every single 038 I have seen is a double ring set up?!?). A $130 for parts that go to 2 different saws!! Can't charge a customer for mistakes like that. So now I am waiting on the seller. It has no refund implied, and the 1st response was pretty lame. Pizzed off to holy heck right now. And it's no fault of Swags. Anyone know of a nice OEM 026 kit? Cause this one ain't gonna bolt up
why not get one of those meteor kits or hyway ? i keep finding more and more parts i need fot my 650 that i need. turnimg my woulf be $100 saw into an almost $175 saw !!
Geez. For one, you can put a 260 P&C on a 026 and vice-verse with zero mods required. I have done it, and I still have an 026 with a 260 engine that I got from Lakeside Andy in it now. Second you can always file a claim on Paypal on any item sold on Ebay, regardless of what the seller says. Using Paypal, they have to take returns if they sell any item that is not as described. Even better, if you use a CC on Ebay, the CC company will tell you to return the item and once they sign for it, the CC company will refund your money. For that reason, you should pay for Ebay stuff with a CC.
You and Boog were the ones who told me about the 260/026 (44mm and 44.7mm bores) and I have since done 3 of them. Mainly using the Hy Way kit w/Cabers (in 44.7mm) . If all the parts were bit ddifferent? Then I'd just box it up and try and sell it . But this kit was made by Frankenstein himself. Going to give the seller till this evening to respond. Otherwise, there precious 100% rating will be ruined.
He don't sweat it Dex it wasn't your fault they conned you. It'll get straightened out. If they give y a problem let me know, ta,kng care of people's problems is a big part of my job.
Thoughts.... Dex, you have a PM about the OEM kit. StihlHead, good point about shoving that 038 cyl and mystery piston up the sellers azz via PayPal. Single Ring piston does not go to any Stihl I can think of in recent memory...... Single ring was Husky's game....
like he said you can get paypal to refund you. i have gotten several cases resolve thru ebay/ paypal. paypal will refund you if u send it back. you will loose shipping but better than $100
Yeah. I lose shipoing, but I dont care about that. Its a small box of aluminum. Cheap... Really good, for a seller who listed no refunds. But they have 100% feedback and I was gonna rip that to shreds They agreed. I wont get a refund till they get the parts. But thats fair. Shipping out tomorrow.
they can say no refunds bit if u pay via paypal there is always refunds esp if they sell u a 260 kit that is not! u cant physically inspect for urself is why they give thos protection.

Yah, I go with OEM on my saws except for Caber rings. OEM P&C will generally run 2x as long as aftermarket. Ebay and CL are filled with funky rebuilt saws.
Yah, they are great for a tired saw, like an old 026. Cheap instant power gain. I just bought a set for my 036, even though it does not need them yet. Just came in the mail from Greece (took less than a week to get them).
