Found out today that 2 of our neighbors saw a cougar! That would be about 3/4 mile from us. Asked if we were worried. No. I'm hoping we might get some pictures on trail cam but no yet. Did get a couple nice pics today of a decent 8 point and some smaller bucks.
No thanks, keep it out there. Too many meat eaters around here as it is. Not safe to let a cat out, or any small animal unattended. My grandkids play a lot in our yard, but out dogs go out with them and are always following them around.
I hope so Tim. He has only a short time left for growing and his brow tines are pretty short. But the bigger bucks usually don't show up until sometime in October.
pretty picture Backwoods Savage cougars would scare me with the kids.. heck I always go first to check for bobcat, lynx, bear, fisher cat and bloody coy dogs. The last week get shot when I see them no question.. Aren't native no natural predators and get hungry and aggressive.. Coy dogs in my opinion are city folks dropping off dogs that need to run at farm and mixing with wolves which according to game warden don't exist here.. Last big one I shot 9 times with 22 mag.. he growled at me, I did not miss, on wheeler put in reverse backed to house hit him with 30-06 front shoulder cross ways to left hind quarter called game warden. Effectively field dressed weighed 157. Bigger than my Great Dane mix. I said to game warden "what is it? " oh its a Dog.. BS... it's wild and bigger than my pure bred rottweiler and great Dane mix with black lab and Rhodesian Ridgeback who stood 6 foot .4inches and weighed 135. So if you got big cats be careful. Cause the bobcats and Coy dogs take deer all time up here..

I've never seen a coydog, but I know they exist. They also don't have the fear of humans that coyotes typically have.
Could have been coy. wolf hybrid but we don't have wolves up here.. according to them. but the reason I was shooting them is because in broad daylight they tried to get my dogs to go into woods after 1. dogs stopped at trees. it was a bait to lure them in. Yeah no fear of humans or dogs..run in packs of 10 about usually.. think of them as wolves run in packs and your in their home. They never gave me it back and never told me what it was even though I called and asked. In general I do not call game wardens in 15 years twice once for this situation just because I did not know what it was. Once to ask if it was legal to shoot beavers out of season for damming up my culvert when no other option worked
