This morning it is time for some stacking of the wood I split yesterday. I'll keep things quiet for another hour for the nieghbor before I fire up the splitter this morning.

When I looked into building a horse barn for my wife there were no requirements for engineered plans if the building was agricultural use.

So off to the daughter's today on a FHC holiday. This time I will take pics as we are taking the woodsplitter and chainsaw this time. Our SIL's little Poulan with a 6" bar and dull chain was really not up to the job.

That's often the case. We see the owner, insurance company or lender will ask to have plans developed on large projects like this even if code officials dont.

If an engineer or architect does become involved codes are almost always self imposed because of liability insurance and ethical reasons.

Stayed out late on a rare date. 2am when our heads hit the pillow. Up at 7 am with the dogs. Took then out so my bride could sleep in.

Started on the deck but started to make too much noise in the neighborhood so we went and finished unloading the last of the mulch at the processing yard.

Put some behind a decorative fence I have.

Decided to split some more of the small to medium elm rounds and start stacking it.

Stopped when I figured out the t post was too short. Will get a longer one later today.

Loaded up the remainder of the mulch.

Time for breakfast! Can't wait to go back to work Monday so I can get some rest. :)

Gotta get a lil' bit east of me even to hear that stuff. But the wife's family is from the Boston area so I get plenty of exposure.

My wife constantly yells at me that we never "warsh" anything 'round here. Judging by the state of the laundry basket, I reckon so. ;)

I ordered a set of plans for a barn we both liked. I think I will go with slightly larger post and beams and add a few braces on top of the ones in the plans.

While taking some engineering courses in college I learned the strength that a triangle can add to a structure. We were building scale bridges to see how strong we could make them at one point. It is interesting to see how many structures there are out there with little triangular bracing. If a few extra boards were added to make some triangles, it would really stiffen the structure up and reduce the chance of collapse.

One year, not too many mile from my house, a structure was going up for a house. The contractor had all walls and the trusses up, but no sheeting on the roof yet. The wind came up and blew all the trusses over and that was even enough to collapse a wall with it. When placing trusses, I not only run a horizontal board across the inside of them at the ridge, but I also run some at angles in different directions to make lots of triangles. If the contractor had done that, they would have not had to take that whole thing apart and start from scratch again. Talk about losing some profit on a job. :picard:UGH! I felt bad for them.

You will look long and hard to find an engineer that will put his seal on a pole barn. If they do, you will say I have never seen a pole barn structure built like this.

I find it the other way....seldom does a pole barn require an engineer stamp...ag exemption is a big reason. However we have done several do to funding requirements (such as USDA). But you are right...the code requirements push an engineered design of a pole barn beyond what most people are use to.

It was so hot here today, and windy too. Instead of going to the lake, we stayed at home, and watched Jurassic World at the theatre.

It was so hot that I didn't get the lawn mowed, and I didn't get my chain adjusted on my motorcycle.

Maybe I'll do that yet tonight, otherwise it's car day tomorrow for work.

Oh, yeah, here it comes 2.4" hail reported by us.

Yup, a lazy night on the porch. Found some porch rocker last week, it's going down smooth on an awesome 82 deg Sunday eve.

Lucked out, only small hail. I did put old towels on the windshield of my boat, under the cover to disperse any large hail from breaking my windshield glass.

Twenty degree temps drop, a lot of rain, and the longest non stop lightning and thunder show I've ever seen. Seriously, the thunder was one long rumble. Its still going, but the crazy stuff is past is us now.
