    None of my saws want to run for more than 1 tank of fuel in this heat. Adjusting the carb didn't help much on any of them either

    Have you checked to make sure the cooling air passages are all clean? If you run more than a minute or two you are relying on that air flow to cool your engine. Also check if there is a summer/winter vent of some sort. On My old Stihl I have a shutter kind of thing that gets reversed for cold weather use. It dumps warm air from the cooling flow into the carb intake air path. That is intended to make the engine run warmer in the cold.

    A very dull chain , very restricted muffler and a carb running to lean? Just my thought?

    Thats not good!!! I can run gallons of fuel through! I cut a good bit in the summer. Thats 90+F around here usually. No trouble.

    Yeah, pump gas treated with ethanol treatment. I guess I don't worry about it much because I don't wanna cut wood for much more than a tank of fuel in this heat either! :whistle: :D

    Unfortunately just about every case that I have seen of or heard of lately about machines getting hot and not starting have been ethanol related.

    Had saws right next to each other working the same area;
    - The VP fueled saws ran fine and started with no problems all day, re-fueling and all.
    - The pump gas with ethanol saws were erratic running if they started at all after stopping to refuel, plus the ones that did run in the 90+ temps had the operators chasing the tune all day .

    Some guys say ethanol aint bad and they dont have a single problem ..................... others loose their hair chasing tunes and problems, then pay extra for the canned fuel.

    Brand-new saw.....

    Catalytic muffler plus a lean tune probably make it run hotter than you may be used to. If it starts and runs ok, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    Sharpen the chain, if you only cut occasionally, canned 40:1 fuel may be worth a look.

    Hmm, interesting. We have 91 octane E0 available locally, I'll hafta try some, see if that makes any difference.

    I have had several poulan saws they are pretty good if you open up the muffler and rip all the guts out. Those muffler cats the epa requirements are terrible imo... The saw simply can't breath. Next remove the carb caps and tune the saw. It will run very well after that. some of mine are passed on to family and friends and still going strong ten years later.

    At the city I work at we have our own fuel pumps. When stations were switching to ethanol we specified straight gas and held out for a long time before our supplier couldn't easily get it. During that time a lot of companies and other city's were having troubles. Ethanol is just plain bad for small engines.

    I'm not sure you would want to run it with no muffler. I have replaced them with non cat mufflers.
