I *think* I am sending my pics to "dropbox", whatever that is. I saw a deal last Christmas for 100 or 200 gb free for two years. Can dropbox serve as a backup of my pics? or might it be changed when I do the win10 upgrade?

Edit, says 7 hours left. Bummer.

Yes, but I wouldn't use it as a long time back up. Will be good in this case, just make sure you double check at Dropbox.com or with a different device that the files are actually there.

You can make 8.1 pull up an older version of the smart menu. Then the app feature is not the dominant pathway. Allows you to view your programs and access them much the same as before.

I give up on drop box. After several hours it says too full to continue. DH said he could loan me a 500GB gigastick from work. Hopefully he remembered to bring it home.

    Oh heck......I don't know.
I'm trying to get it on a slightly older laptop, not my daily use machine.
If I don't like it, I can always put 7 or Linux back on it.
I would, but that's your call. Just about everything I've read says it's gooder than 8 or 8.1.

I would guess if you had the offer for free upgrade on your 32bit computer it would. ?

I'm too old school for this Information Age. I still miss the dial tone and "You've Got Mail".

I'm sure there's a few on here that remember "party lines".
We had one phone in the house when I was a kid, and there was no call waiting, forwarding, or id.
You picked it up because it was exciting to find out who was calling.
Now, I hate picking up the house phone, because of the stupid calls we get.
Yes, we're on the DNC registry.

I miss building things like black boxes and the like. Phone company computers got smart and unlimited long distance did away with the need for the hobby.

My grandparents on the old farm had a party line. As a child I could not help but listen in to neighbors :picard:

Windows 7. Keeping it until my desktop dies. My personal laptop in a MacBook Air. Anything beyond my Window 7 desktop will be a Mac. Slightly more expensive, but worth the extra coin in my book.

I understood that win10 sends much more info of your computer use to MicroSoft than older versions. Around here they advice to change the privacy settings during installation. During install there is supposed to be a choice between something like "typical" and "custom (maybe differend words are used, but you get the idea). Privacy setting options are available in the "custom". For myself I dislike 8 because of the stupid tablet screen but I wait a while to update just to see if there are other important considerations. You have a year to activate the free upgrade from win 7 and 8 so no hurry there...

Ill wait a month before I got to 10. I might put it on a secondary computer to mess around with it. I've done some reading and well it's to be more like 7 is, that the disaster that 8/8.1 is. From what I read, if you figured anything out on 8, you should be able to use 10, as it's suppose to be easier to use.

Drop box is full, amazon cloud is full, I do not care to buy more storage. I did a manual copy to an old external hd for pics. Except I used up 70% of this months data usage with those uploads, I do not have enough GB's remaining to download win10 now :hair:

My internet plan will be a new month on 8/25.

Well, the download went well. Took some time, but it didn't want any help from me. That App page is gone. Looks more like Window 7. But there is this talking thing at the start. You can ask it to do stuff and it will. Bet it won't stack wood!
