I've been looking at piston and cylinder kits for one of my 272xp saws. What are the best ones to get? I see some kits are less than 50 dollars and some more than 100. What are the differences and which is better? I've rebuilt a couple two stroke four wheeler motors but this is my first saw.

Before you go any further you need to determine why you need a new P&C. If you don't correct the reason for this failure you will be repeating the process.

Used oem would be the first choice

Its an old saw that is low on compression. I haven't even taken it apart yet, as I'm still using it. I was just looking around at these to get an idea.

Do you think a ring job might do it? I had lots of success with ring jobs back when I used to do my own work on cars. Just hone the cylinder and replace the rings.

Meteor is generally considered the highest quality aftermarket top end. ive heard people also having luck with hyway kits. Cheaper kits will have lower quality casting, more variation between batches, poor port layouts a lot of times, poor quality cylinder plating etc...

I would look at re-ringing the OEM first with caber or oem ring. IF you needed a piston kit go with the meteor piston kit.

ok thanks guys. I am just looking ahead at what I might possibly need. Like I said, I haven't opened it up and looked yet. I got this saw out of my father in-laws basement. Gonna refresh it this summer or fall.
