My second child, through no fault of her own, always manages to make holidays, vacations, and family trips memorable. Appendicitis, swimmer's ear that turns into a pretty serious ear infection, that sort of thing.

This week being no different, my wife discovered head lice yesterday. Still haven't figured that one out yet, as nobody else here has any, school has been out for over a month, and none of her friends she's had contact with since have any sign.

We had renters here last week, only base we haven't covered yet. I suppose it's a possibility, even after cleaning and changing linens. They left Saturday and we got here Sunday, so time-wise I gues that could be.

    A few different otc products.

Listerine is a very effective home remedy. Not the we're that experienced, but this is the second time between our two girls, and it works. Vinegar also helps to loosen the 'glue' that holds the nits on the hair shaft. You do have to be careful, as both products will irritate and burn the skin if left on too long. Apply them with a spray bottle.

Then it's just time consuming work, picking the nits out. And cleaning. And running everything through the dryer, to kill anything on bedding, clothes, toys, etc.

Pulled my well pump this morning, she quit yesterday. Flushing all the rusty crap out now.

350 ft down, upgraded the pump a bit so hopefully we are no longer walking on eggshells with this one.

This has been a good well. I haven't run it out yet and I have asked a lot of it at times. 300ft + is pretty typical for this part of NY.

Some of the farm wells were 500'+ Pumping to an above-ground cistern that a booster pump drew from to feed the drinkers and barns. It's not uncommon around here and there are plenty that are too deep to use black poly pipe.

Another backyard dinner on the grill tonight. Chicken, taters, peppers, and eggplant. All grown in my backyard (except the budweiser).

Why grow beer when you can grow moonshine.
