Fired the oven last night for my first crack at beer can chicken, and also made some asparagus and squash. I rubbed the chicken with some sort of Mccormick chicken rub. Came out well I thought, used red oak that I had drying in the oven all week, it didn't even measure on the moisture meter, it was that dry.
Ok WoodovenAT you piqued my interest. How about some photos of the oven and the story how you got it.
Thanks, I built it myself last spring. I used the Allan Scott design as a baseline. His book breadbuilders is something to refer to if your looking to build one. Also Forno Bravo, has a lot of great info.
Oh. Looks good. I haven't done one yet in mine. Maybe this fall I will with some squash, potatoes and rolls on the side. Nice reminder.
I wanted to make cornbread with this, but forgot.. Lol, the squash with the asparagus went well together. Lately, I've been adding squash to everything, them things grow like weeds!
WoodovenAT, Looks great!!! I like the wood storage on the bottom. The firebox looks nice size, Not too big and not too small.
Thanks, from what I remember the cooking floor is 40" deep and 36" wide. And the dome is 18" high. I've cooked 2 pizzas at a time, any more than that would be to hard to handle, they cook FAST when it's running wide open.
Wow! How are the air nazi's up there? I duke it out with them regularly down here.. I'm at the extreme south end.
What's an air nazi???! Lol, we like Cape May, gotta get back down there soon. How's the bennies treatin ya down there?
Good! You don't have them to worry about! They are the winter people who move here, "generally fro the city" who want to live at the shore. They complain about "EVERYTHING" and how they don't like this and that when they get here and go to city council meetings and complain. They don't like the local way of life so they try and change it to suit them. We've had people complain about the smell of wood smoke burning in the winter "yes" imagine that, they say they come to the shore to escape pollution. One of my recent newspaper articles is at capemaycountyherald.com go to opinions and read the clip, "so just how much did you pollute" Anyway, thats who the air nazi's are… Come winter you'll be hearing from them but not a peep out of them all summer with the millions of campfires, BBQ grills, and a million mowers going every day. Sorry, Rant over… If you live here you have to accept the tourists, I don't like it, but it's "NEVER" going to change as long as the beach is here. so I just vent when I need to and move on… Cape may is just to small, I'm amazed the island hasn't sank with all the people on it!
