Saw an ad on Craigslist free firewood with an address, posted 5 hours ago. Ad says when wood is gone the ad will be removed
Get ready, hook up the trailer and lights load a little bit of gear and recheck the add, chit ad has been deleted:(:hair:

I've been late to the party many times myself, used to be a time a few years back it would sit for awhile, not anymore.

Heck, after the winter we had free wood is gone, how ever still getting chunks of kiln dried maple, black walnut and cherry for free at furniture store. I don't stack it it gets thrown in trash cans and when those are full goes into an empty horse stall. stall is 10 by 10 and getting full. it's 15 miles away but most people don't take much in summer. and a lot less work than :saw::tree::axe::stacke:

BTU, is BTUS! Obviously I do not run that by itself but mix it with some little too wet wood and there you go..

Couldn't agree more, other than an electric company freebie I got in April I've been shut out this year, got about 3/4 cord of elm and box elder. I've never been shut out but this will be my worst year ever unless I get lucky in the next couple of months.

I know exactly what you mean HD, I have responded (by just going to the address on CL) and have been met by one or more people doing the same thing. Once you load the truck once chances are that's all your gonna get unless your drive is short.

I get 100% of me wood off C/L (and do quite well at it). I hate it when they post an address and say first come first serve. Much better when they just post contact info either C/L email or phone so you can actually converse with someone and hopefully they well reserve the wood for you.

I only go to the posted address option if it is close to home

Insulation is another good'n to be fast with, last year I had 8 or so bags of blown in insulation, it was on cl for less than 20 minutes and was out of my yard, and that was on a Wednesday at 9am! last week I put another 20 bags on for free, 2 separate guys met me right after work the next day and took the whole lot

I'm the same way. My first 2 years I had to get wood from CL so I kept the "free" section of Craigslist up at work and hit refresh every hour or so. If there was a number or email I'd contact them immediately, and about 25% of the time I'd be the first response and would pick up what I could on the way home from work. Once you prove that you'll reliably show up when you say you will the homeowner is more likely to save the rest for you for a day or so. There's been several times when I was 3rd on the list and I'd get a call back because the first 2 were no-shows. I never bothered with the places that just had addresses, I tried that twice and found nothing left. But I understand why people do it, Craigslist is like a beacon for unreliable shady liars.

Last one i checked out Cl ad posted address less than an hour on cl another hour before I cruised bye all gone, it was on my way to the shop so not an extra chase for nothing. another was Black locust less than a mile from me but huge pieces and I did not have the lift or ramps they were at shop an hour + round trip to retrieve( too odd shaped to roll could likely drag up ramps with come-a-along)
Last friday customer called about some large red elm that he had just done stump grind on all chunked up but large chunks got that one five pickup bed full ( 4-6.5 beds one 8ft -Cord +?) Got lucky and caught the home owner before he left for the weekend got permission to drive right up to it.

It could be worse... Around here, after the last few winters we've had, ain't no-body giving that stuff away.

It's getting pretty desperate around here: https://buffalo.craigslist.org/zip/5095773368.html

Free Broken Up Couch (firewood) (Buffalo)

I had to break up a couch and it's just in pieces right now. There are some nails and staples still in it. If anyone needs some free fire wood let me know

    :rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

Part of the problem though about this shortage , at least around here some people are snatching up the free firewood processing it and selling it, and I think this kind of thing has become more prevalent in the last couple of years.
Really pizzes me off too  but there's nothing you can do about it

yep, that is exactally what is happening around here as well. when I reply to free firewood posts I let them know I am just a simple homeowner who heats his house with wood and not someone who is going to re sell it, sometimes works to my advantage

Also I know there is a way to get texts on your phone when new posts get posted to C/L, but seeing I do not have a smart phone I do not worry about it, but that is how others act so quickly on new posts
