I was on lunch today and seen a sign on one of the main roads near work that said "free firewood". I drove by it thinking I'm sure it's just junk but obviously I wouldn't be ok without knowing what it was. I turned the car around and went down the side street and seen a black locust tree sectioned up. I talked to the guy and asked if I could come back after work and he said "sure take as much as you want". I didn't expect it to last that long but did a drive by after work, to my surprise it was still there so I ran home, picked up the truck/trailer/gear and headed back over. I picked up my old man on the way so I had a helper.(After he retired I told him I'd keep him young) All said and done I probably ended up with about a cord of wood. Not bad for a quick 1 1/2 hour trip after work, my dad loaded as I cut so we got it done pretty quick. The wood has some rot in the center but there is plenty of good stuff there. Here's a terrible picture of the load, it was getting dark by the time I got home. I'll snap more tomorrow.
It's not but it'll be able to use it next season(16/17) if I want. If those pieces were Oak they'd probably weigh close to double, BL is silly dry compared to Oak.
Free wood sign also has the same effect as bacon, too! Nice score for sure, rdust and hope you drove to get yer gear, instead of running- that's just extra work
I got about a 1/4 of the Locust you scored at the township dump yesterday.Nothin like what you scored but every little bit counts. Good on ya RD ! Good chit and major BTU's !
He retired when he was 58(young) he's now 65 and still going strong. Between my mom running him all over the place and my brothers and I keeping him moving he should live a long time.
It all adds up, I've never had this much BL at one time. Out by my house too many people burn wood, it would've been gone in no time out this way. Of course I think the 80+ weather discourages most normal people from thinking about firewood.
