With all the rain we have had this summer, we have a lot more mushrooms in the woods. My girls started taking pictures of all the varieties. I was surprised looking at the pics of how many different types we have and how little I know about mushrooms. We were wondering if we have some edible ones here that we don't even know about? Any mushroom guys or gals out there?
I'm no shroom expert, but those all look poisonous to me. Chanterelles are orange but not shaped like those. Pheasant backs are edible too, but I didn't see any in that string of pics. Apparently most people don't like pheasant backs.
I've heard that if the flesh smells bad, it's no good to eat... In the first set of posted pics 4 & 6 have a "fly agaric" appearance, what with the buttons on top, but those would make you sweat and hallucinate, probably want to avoid those!!! Spore kit, or send them to a local co-op extension....
OK, the 6th one down on the second set is looking like it might be edible. I'll wait to see what others say though. Usually the pretty ones are toxic.
Saw some trumpets of death... And I believe that all red mushrooms are poisonous. I see in your pics none of the mushrooms I know to be edible.
Fantastic pictures. Nice to look and, even to print up as a collection. I wouldn't eat any mushroom that didn't come from a grocery store or didn't grow my self from a kit.
That's a safe bet. Morels are my exception to that rule, but I know those well. I'll always be looking for chanterelles though as my next shroom score.
Beautiful pictures and quite the variety. I didn't see anything that I would call edible. funny thing is that it is drier here that it has been for quite a while and the puffballs are showing up. Not too big but they are coming up out of the ground.
