With all the rain here in se ohio, I have notice more carpenter ants in my stacks. I have sprayed around base of stacks. All but one stack is far from house. The one that is close is getting moved. How does everyone else deal with them? Hopefully it will stop raining and the piles will dry out and it wont be as big of a problem.
Yup. Just cover the wood; that is, top cover. When the wood dries, the ants will leave. Chickens will go to work fast on them. I once drew a line with bird seed and drew in some wild turkeys to clean up some ants I found when splitting in mid-winter. They made short work of it but then the next problem was teaching them to not come looking for more every day...
I used to have a batch of chickens that would come running when they heard me start swinging the maul. Not only bugs in the wood, but any that are under a round when I move it. They would clear out the ants pretty fast. Must have been like a buffet for them!
one cup sugar, one cup water, 3 tablespoons boric acid. dampen cotton balls with this solution and place them where the ants are. They will go after it. take some back to the queen and you ants are no more. You can store this solution and use it as needed.
