Hi folks it has being a bit and after a bad end to last year for me i am back chainsaw milling again with my Logosol saw mill and running my new Sthill 661 . The tree i am milling at the moment blew down in a storm a year and a half ago its a 150 year old oak about 40 inches in diameter at the bottom but this size is no bother to the Logosol kit. It took me about 2 days to do the fire wood at the top of the tree about 5 tractor trailer loads for the tree owner and i got the log for myself to mill up this took another 4 days . I cut the log up into 3 x 8 ft sections and 1 x 4 ft section the tractor was only used once to hold a large branch as i cut it for safety . I total i will have about 170 cubic of oak slabs ans beams . If you are interested in looking at my time lapse videos on Youtube they are up there now just look for Terry Goggin on youtube and click on the Terry Goggin section and all of the Oak Tree is up there from start to finish fire wood to milling and all that is left of the big oak is saw dust but the slabs i milled will live on for another few hundred years .. Please comment and ask any questions and i will try to answer if i can .... sorry i was not able to put my videos up on your site but the files were just to large.. Good to see you back Terry, was wondering where you had gone to. And as usual, some great looking milling pics. You do some really nice work.
That looks great Terry. Love the color. That looks like a very smooth cut - how do you sharpen your chains?
Only have the 661 working a few days but if its as good as my 660 there should be no bother.. The 660 was sawmilling since 2009 flat out and no trouble what so ever all i changed on the engine was a spark plug and that was only for the sake of changing it . I also have a Sthil 460 and a 200 and an old 024 and never had any trouble from any of them .. For most people looking for a good chainsaw and want a saw for 30 years it pays to buy a professional chainsaw and not a hobby saw they all look the same on the outside but the hobby saw is only designed to last 100 hours work .. I know the pro saw is much more expensive but it will out last the hobby saw by 100 times.. I find that the gas ??? petrol over here mix has to be either Sthil or Husqvarna 2 stroke is the most important part of any saws engine life NO OTHER OIL there is a lot of power boat and motor bike 2 stroke oils out there and they WILL wreck your engine in no time.. I do not go for the full mix either my mix is not 5 litres to a mix it is 4.5 litres to a mix and never had engine trouble .. Reards Terry Goggin.
I have an Oregon electric grinder with a diamond grinding wheel ???? The diamond wheel is expensive but again it lasts for ever and puts a razer sharp edge on the chain a must with chainsaw milling .. Regards Terry Goggin
Terry have you seen this? http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/resources/uploading-video-tutorial.9/
The pro saws are supposed to go 1k hours before internal parts wear out. I run bike oils in all my saws. 32:1 or 25:1 when only milling and not filling other saws up.
it is a thing called a timber winch i got it from Logosol it was expensive but it is well worth the money .. I think it is made in the USA ???? i will see in the next few days is there any other numbers or names on it and i will get back to you .. Sorry about the delay getting back to you but i am very busy over here .
Sorry im sooooo slow getting back to you but there dont seem to be any name or anything on my log hand winch come jack all i know is its made up in the USA and it was Logosol . co . uk that i got it from .. Regards Terry
Thanks for the pics and vids Terry; I am living vicariously through you, Shawn & Thistle. Milling my own wood is on my bucket list (someday).
