Well, today I split and stacked what I believe will be the last of the wood this season. I am looking forward to doing it again next year. It looks like we are good for 2 years now, and may be approaching 3 years. I don't have a firm handle on what my "normal" consumption will be, nor do I have an accurate cord count, though I am guessing about 12 cords. Greg :stacke:
Yes I would think 12 cords would get most people to the 3 year mark or close to it. Good work and great feeling to be done for awhile!
You guys are relentless! A little more pine heavy than I would wish, but that is what Mother Nature provided this year. Probably 50% pine (lodgepole and ponderosa), 25% douglas fir, 15% tamarack (western larch), and 10% quaking aspen. One or two sticks of maple thrown in. There is about 1/2 cord of douglas fir in the woodshed, left over from last winter. I am really starting to like douglas fir. Buck it and let it sit for a few weeks stacked in the sun, and it splits well. Pine (ponderosa) sitting in the same condition fights me more, lodgepole is about like douglas fir for splitting. On the middle photo, the one round remaining (far left) is Satan. I'll beat on it more some other time. I normally double-stack, some in the bottom photo look triple or quad stacked, but that is an illusion from the photo angle, blending rows together. Stacks are generally 4-5 feet high, and on pallets. With the rainy season over for a while, I'll probably pull the little bit of top covering off when I get around to it. Good drying weather coming up, supposed to hit 106F on Sunday! Time to start thinking about putting an airconditioner in this house! Anything that is partially top covered is a year old (CSS 1 year). Most of the rest is cut about a year, but split and stacked this spring. The small sticks in the foreground of the middle photo are my wife's handiwork. There is more off-photo. Greg
