And while I was at work the phone rang and one of my tree guy friends asked me if I wanted some red oak and red maple. Turned out to be mostly red oak. Clear and clean. No blue stains either but that really doesn't matter cause they are all cut to length. Looks like it'll be a few pieces more than a cord. The yard smells good!

I love the smell of red oak too! And you can't beat how easy it splits (usually)!

Butter is right. I hauled out the splitter after dinner and dispatched 2 rounds. (Vertical, no milk crate). All easy splitting, no hidden knots and straight grained. None of the nastiness that yard trees can have. Got 41 or so splits out of them. Just love watching them pile up.

I rather dislike processing wood in the summer but it was a good day to work today. Cool but damp. Drizzle at times but still better than working in the 90 degree sun. I put the splitter on the edge on the driveway to preserve the lawn and got all but 2 pieces split. I'd say theres a bit more than a cord. I think every piece was 16" or under. Didn't even need to get out a saw which was ok cause it is wet.

    Nice work!

I HATE processing firewood in summer as well.

But I split all the rest of my wood for this winter as well today. It wasn't hot or sunny like yesterday.
