Wow - let us know how many squirrel and racoon families live in there, eh? Knarly (really big) branch - did high winds take that down, or just gravity?
We had some high winds the day before. But the wife was mowing close by when it fell. Very lucky to be out of the way.
She felt the ground shake. Ants did the damage. The rest of the tree should come down but is surrounded by other 300 year old oaks. I don't know what I'll do right now. Gotta think about that.
Wow! No doubt. I think a good chunk of the trees I've cut are smaller than those branches! That will make the stacks grow quick!
Glad the wife was out of the way Mitch.....mowing....been doing lots of that with all the rain. Don't know how southern Ohio is down your way but I was on vacation this week, no real plans just to do what ever we wanted to, but it rained at least some every day.
Well as long as its less then 39" around you should be able to do it. You'll just have to attack it from both sides. Out to be able to run a little gas through that 362CM that puppy...
I was dreading going home the other night as those storms rolled through Dayton. I've got hit pretty hard the last couple years and when Ike's remnants passed through. Luckily it missed me this time. When it rips road signs off, you know you have had some strong winds. If you can wait a couple weeks I might be able to come over to help buck it up. Got some bigger saws that will take care of that. Just totally swamped and behind at the moment and work overtime is crazy too.
Always best to give it some real thought before you start cutting. There is no easy way to know what the inside of that standing part of the tree looks like but it is likely badly damaged too.
