Not too bad for a mornings work. Still collecting dead dry stuff for this winter but we moved in last August and last winter wasn't cooperating with wood gathering. Hoping to finish 16/17 CSS by this winter and start gaining on my three year plan. Good thing is I have to clear about 10 acres of mostly oak so I am not worried about running out of wood!

Nice to have a decent size area near home to gather wood from and oak is both easy splitting and high BTUs. The only problem with oak is how long it takes to dry. If you plan on using that wood for 16/17 make sure you stack it loose, single rows, in the sun, and broadside to the prevailing breeze. Let the sun warm the stack and the wind move through it to remove the moisture.

    Good luck with your gathering,

Looks like you walked into a good thing. Is the oak dead standing? I wonder how dry it is

Nice Crodog. Do you just skid the logs to that area on the ground or do you have a way of keeping them off the ground to keep dirt off? Do you plan on splitting and stacking right away? Good luck with this winter's wood. It can be tough when you are moving as you basically have to start over on the wood supply. Hopefully this coming winter will be better for wood cutting.

I was originally just cutting and hauling the rounds in the tractor bucket to the splitter but there too many stumps in the way so I just skid them out. The wood is stacked in an open field so plenty of sun! Just trying to get caught up!
Thanks for the advice and the support!

That's a great picture - especially with the splitter sittin'off in the distance ready to rock n roll. We also like pics of stacks (hint, hint) LOL.
    Good job, Crodog.

When skidding on the ground the logs can pick up lots of dirt. One can make a simple dray like the pictures. The top pictures is one I threw together for about $10. It is small but handy. We don't use it much but thankful when we need it. Then wishlist made one after seeing ours and he made his a little larger. Works like a charm.
