I have a brand new one and after running it for a few minutes, I had to turn mine up around 3/4 too. Now seems to run and idle fine...so far.

And as far as mine is concerned, I got my 455 about a month ago and haven't gone through one of those cans of gas I got to double the "warranty" (warranty yah right). It idled fine at the dealers, but would stall on idle when I got it home. I just turned the idle up a bit and after cutting down some small trees and cutting them up (very small trees) it idles and runs fine. I'll know for sure later this summer when I get my next load of wood.

I just realized you are talking about the 55 Rancher and not the 455. Don't know how similar they are or not, so I will shut up and leave you guys to it.
