I've came across this mold plow. I'm told my X720 will pull it. What I know is the model #, serial number, and it's a cat 0 . But it looks like it's a 12" or 14" plow. Can any reference what this plow was made for ? Thank you....
I'll try tomorrow. I figured I could get my answer with the tag on the net. But I struck out that way. So I figured I'd try this route.
Just search for a john deere 15 moldboard plow. Don't know if this will link to the manual. javascript:getOpenPdf('PC1561.pdf')
Here's the pictures. I still haven't found much info. Except they were made in 70's & for 300's & 400's hydrostatic transmission.... Which means mine should have no problem.... concretegrazer pdf link didn't come through. How deep does this go if it's a 15" mold plow?
Maximum effective depth for moldboard plows is 1/3 of the cutting width of the board, or 5 inches in your case. They will plow deeper than than the 1/3, but the pulverizing and turning action is reduced. Some of the plowing contests will disqualify a contestant for going to deep.
Also, set the coulter so it cuts about 1.5 to 2 inches the left of the shin of the moldboard, and like AWOL said, the plow depth should be around 5-6 inches and level. Use the right lower lift arm on the tractor to level the cut, and the top link of the 3 pt hitch to level it front to back. Plowing with a moldboard plow is almost as therapeutic running a well tuned saw IMO!
Fond memories here plowing with a JD 4450 MFWD (15 spd PS) and a 4 bottom hillside. (We have small fields, 60 acres is huge, and no flat terrain around here. Plus we grow boulders like dandelions.)
