Wife and I just finished stacking a lovely oak (it was recently deceased on the stump with no leaves this Spring). That puts around 4 full cord CSS. :stacke: This will be great BTU's in a couple of years.
Love that chesnut oak! Cuts and splits like butta! Dad and i cut 1 down along with 3 white oaks last night at the horse farm. There's 3 more chesnuts that we're taking down there that i can see. One is 24"dia Nice stack job!
Unfortunately, there's more where that came from. I've got dozens dying in my woods. State forester wasn't sure why. Ok well, great habitat for owls and woodpeckers and high density BITs for us. My black oaks are healthy so the forest will be fine.
Strange.... the chesnut oaks around here survived the gypsy moth invasion alot better than the black and white oaks. The blight didn't seem to affect them much either. Some tough suckers they are
the gypsys are raping my fruit trees this year, and the few wild cherries i have. nothing on the oaks or any other trees.
Does she put on classes.. I am thinking a secondary income as a professor of stacking.. my daughter could take some lessons.. that would be worth money!

Yes. Tis the season for the tent caterpillers. Years ago I went all around our place with a torch and burned the tent caterpillers. For many years we had very few and still today we don't even have a third of what we used to get.
