My wife and I are at the RA superbike races this weekend. We both took Friday off as we normally do and got to see all the classes practice and some qualifying today. Tomorrow is the start of the races. We took the little guy. He's getting some rest on the way so He's all ready for the fun. We had him at the races when he was 9-10 weeks old, so he's used to the loud and fast bikes. Turn 7 Shade for Badger. It was hot at first. Muggy too. Supersport 600's heading into T7 Happy Badger Superbike practice Outside of turn 5, super stock 600 practice I'll post more soon.
More pictures of today's action Heavy braking here at T5 Supersport 600 MV Agusta rider Hayden Gillam It had to rain, like we expected. So I found fried cheese curds to pass the time. It's a lot of work, obviously. Badger like watching the bikes. This is the inside of T5. The inaugural KTM rc390 cup. All riders have the same exact bike. It's aimed at younger riders.
Pretty cool that you've pretty much got the run of the place and can see whatever you want! I'll have to stay away from this thread if you post more pics, I'll end up wanting to get another 600 for track days!
I'll post more tonight. I went through the pits with my wife and badger too. I didn't get any pics there as I had Badger's leash in one hand, and my beverage in the other. . We saw a few of the prominent racers in their pit/ trailer areas, but they were eating and relaxing, so we let them have their space.
OK, it was cold and rainy, with a cold for this time of the year strong NE wind driving rain sideways. We still had fun, but the parking lot was a mud pit. I had to push a stuck KIA out from the muck. I did it all by myself, just pushing him by hand. I deserved that extra beer. I didn't take as many pics today. We were just starting as dry and warm add possible, plus we had friends from up north join us with their 2 year old son, and 13 year old daughter. We grilled out, in the rain, and still had fun. Maybe I'll get some pics of the slop fest tomorrow. No 2wd anything was herding out of this parking area. I'm happy we have awesome tires on the 4runner. I think I ruined a decent pair of tennis shoes from just walking around in the muck. Supersport race 1, race 2 is tomorrow This was our beer contribution for Saturday. Water street brewery amber. A happy race winner in superstock 600. Aftermath from his burnout Race 1 of the KTM RC390 cup. This was the inaugural race of this series in the USA. It's being done over in Europe too. I didn't take pics during the supersport race, as it was raining. There's was a lot of attrition due to crashes from the rain. My guy Hayden Gillam crashed his MV agusta right in front of us. He walked away, with a limp, he didn't even attempt to restart the bike, which combined with the limp is not a good thing. Hopefully he's OK. I didn't get pics is super pole from the superbikes, because I was grilling. My new favorite rudder is Huntley Nash, on the ducati panigale 1199. I've nicknamed him Haulin' Nash. I'll try to get a pic of him and his bike tomorrow.
Well it's dry at least today. 45 degrees and windy at 8:30 am. It'll warm up a bit, maybe into the low 60s, but both superbike 1000cc races are today, as well as supersport 600, KTM rc 390 cup race 2, and I think one more super stock 600 race.
Did they have the rental go kart track open? Those are the fastest rental karts I have ever seen. The darn things gave me vertigo when I got out of it.
Yes, that's open every year, although I have yet to try them. I built a mean go cart years ago. It only had a 5 HP racing Briggs on it, but it was fast, and quick. When you need to have tires balanced on a go cart that is an indicator. Those karts do look like a lot of fun though, I just always am so engrossed in the bikes that weekend. Maybe we'll hit up RA for another weekend this summer and we'll do the karting.
Yes, the last couple of years we've hit Indy for motogp. This year the AMA ( motoamerica) superbikes will be supporting the GP bikes and running Indy. Should be interesting. We will go again this year, and every year they run Motogp at Indy. It's on our calendar. We'll probably stay in brownsburg again this year. Thanks for the reminder, we need to get our hotel reserved soon.
I had a cooler of extra beverages in case I had visitors. I'll load more pictures soon, from Sundays action. Maybe I'll even upload a video of some racing. Here's a pic of the 4runner in the much drier slop fest parking lotfrom sunday at turn 5. Note the uphill slope? That is what got the 2 WD vehicle stuck. It was a nasty gloppy mud that this pic from a day later doesn't show. It dried out a lot. The only nice bit about the nasty mud is that it kept must of the lot free for us. This is the first year in 11 years that we got a front row parking there on Saturday and Sunday. Those Falken wild peak AT's are very very nice tires. I highly recommend them. Quiet on the freeway, they wear well, and grip nicely in deep snow and pretty nasty mud.
The track is set up like a road course. You actually have to drive and use correct braking and hit apexes in order to be fast. One of the guys with us was an experienced karter and just smoked us. If you over drive a corner you will lose control. The carts are a blast. Then there are the shifter carts. FWIW, I have driven Road America track during track days in a Corvette. That my friend was way cool.
They race super moto bikes on that kart track. I circled it on the overhead shot of the Road America grounds. I saw this at the track too. Homebrew 3 wheeler. Looked like an all aluminum frame.
Great pics, Horkn! Looks and sounds like you, Mrs. Horkn, and Badger had a wonderful time, man.... Of course, it woulda been cool to meet you at DexterDay's GTG this past weekend.... Maybe the next time around?!!!! When you're not muddin' around at some bike racing event?! Badger would have a time with our fella's too!
I'm sure we'll meet up at some point. This is the 11th year in a row my wife and I went to the superbike races at RA.
