I'm lucky in that I've never had one of those little turds on me. A guy I know up north has gotten two of them this year. I've heard conflicting reports on how long they have to chomp on you before they can cause problems. I'm sure my day will come.

I checked with my Dr.....Dr. Google, and it sounds like they have to be in for greater than 24 hours to spread Lyme disease (this was a deer Tick). So I should be good. Word is ticks are plentiful this year. First time I had one dug in in a long time. I have had them crawling around though.

I heard the same thing about being plentiful. I would have thought the opposite after the winter we had.

I am with you, I thought this winter would have done them in.

Hate, Hate, Hate ticks. I got bit and contracted Lymes disease even after going to the ER. They didn't treat for Lymes because they didn't recognize the bite. I had to be treated twice as long to get rid of the infection. It was the size of a football and hot as heck. Now I have SEVERE arthritis. Very painful and can't take anything for it that helps. I won't do any additive drugs and I can't take meds like Motrin, ASA , Celebrex etc. I can't prove the arthritis is related to the Lymes, but that is typical for the infection. I had one acquaintance that got dementia following a lymes infection.
Good excuse to have chickens in the yard if you can. Always do tick checks even if you didn't go in the woods. I've pulled two off my wife and she doesn't even walk on the lawn.

Sorry to hear. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if that Lyme disease contributed to your severe arthritis. Funny thing is I always shower and check right after yard work. Either I missed him or got him somewhere else today.

I agree with IHATEPROPANE , I also found many articles on both mono and lyme disease triggering autoimmune genes. Larry, is your arthritis osteo or rheumatic?
